Honestly, every Sabres fan should be overjoyed the UPL grabbed G1 and has a good handle on it.

Best case out of this season. Simplifies the summer.
I am very glad....that UPL has made the first step toward grabbing G2. Andersen has G1 stats but can't play G1 games. UPL playing more games doesn't make him a G1. I am happy with his growth, but I am nowhere near calling him a G1 to hang my future on. If I get a chance to trade for a true legit G1 with term, now or in the ofseasn.....I am still doing it.

Know how we always said that if we our goalies gave us NHL-average work we'd be close to a playoff team?

Per that graph, UPL is basically THE average starting goalie. And look -- we're close to a playoff team.
That graph is of like 60 goaltenders both starters and backups, so average on that graph, is a solid G2....not average starter.

Lets not start anointing just yet. Our collective bar is still just way to low.

I agree with you... but i get the feeling they will ride UPL in hopes he becomes bona-fide #1 while Levi develops

I just don't see them going for an established goalie

There may not be an established goalie available, or for a reachable price, but if there is and our GM is not trying then it is a BAD plan.....because HOPE is NOT a PLAN! Until he has a true #1 goalie he should be looking into every avenue to improve that position....and then.....when he has a #1 guy, he needs to keep looking for how to improve that position! Waiting for UPL and Levi or Portillo (both unsigned) to become your Miller or Hasek, is a fools errand. What if NONE of them get there and you just waste years of the current cores time hoping and waiting? If you see a real #1 goaltender you can reach? Then you better freakin reach.

I agree.

How can you really blame anything on him?

Two deflections, an interference and an own goal.

Dude did what he could tonight.

He only made 1 big save on maybe 4 prime scoring chances. One more big save and we have the 2 points

He's didn't let in a softie, but he also didn't make enough big saves

Anderson hasn't won since December 17.

Do we need him?
In January, Craig Anderson's Save% is .896 and UPL's Save% is .898.

The big difference in their results has been that the Sabres have not scored 4+ goals in any of Anderson's 3 January starts and they have scored 5+ goals in 3 of UPL's 5 January starts.

The Sabres are 0-5-1 in January when they fail to score 4 goals+ and 3-0-0 when they score 4+ goals in January.

Comrie has one start in January. He had a .818 Save% in a 4-3 loss to Seattle.

The Sabres need Anderson until the time comes that Comrie can give them better goaltending than Anderson.
