In January, Craig Anderson's Save% is .896 and UPL's Save% is .898.

The big difference in their results has been that the Sabres have not scored 4+ goals in any of Anderson's 3 January starts and they have scored 5+ goals in 3 of UPL's 5 January starts.

The Sabres are 0-5-1 in January when they fail to score 4 goals+ and 3-0-0 when they score 4+ goals in January.

Comrie has one start in January. He had a .818 Save% in a 4-3 loss to Seattle.

The Sabres need Anderson until the time comes that Comrie can give them better goaltending than Anderson.
In the little that I saw of Comrie, he looked like he was going to be absolutely fine b4 he got hurt.

Was very impressed by his rebound control as well, which if you were a team that wins faceoffs could be a dual benefit.

The fact that there are judgments being passed on him already, with how little in reality we've seen, is Ridiculous.

Same for UPL really. You assume growth when it comes to UPL though, because of his age, but even with Comrie there is a certain lack of experience where you could see room for growth as well.

Not to beat a dead horse, but with the Sabres chances of playoffs as razor slim as they are, Anderson is not doing us any favors being in the lineup, even if he's undeniably the best of the 3 right now.

I never thought getting rid of him as a good idea. We're one goalie injury away from Armageddon.
Even with his terrible stats, it's not like he's leaking goals. He's stopped plenty of A+ saves but has been left high and dry on ones that got in. The goalies are the least of the problem, team defense and attention to detail would go a long way to chopping points off the GAA

Being their best goalie isn't doing the team any favors when they want to win games.

That makes no logical sense to me.

This team isn't in tank mode. And even prior to the injury, Comrie was struggling after his season got off to a strong start. Some of that was on the injuries on defense. But, some of that was on Comrie, as well.

The Sabres are in the playoff race as much as teams like Florida and the Islanders are. None of those teams should be pulling the chute and looking to the future and should be doing what they can to get into the playoffs.

I don't think you're looking at things objectively.

I'm not exactly thrilled this won't be the playoff year, but it is what it is. And I certainly don't want to see any moves which compromise our future, so that we can pretend that this team is ready to do any sort of damage.

What moves are you expecting that will compromise their future while keeping Craig Anderson around?

Casey Fitzgerald and Vinnie Hinostroza were not future pieces.

Keeping Anderson around until Comrie outplays him on a regular basis is objectively the right move to make.

I barely have time for this right now,

But any delusional moves that might give us an idea that playoff success could be had as early as this year I suppose.

I'm not saying we should f*** Anderson over. He'd have to agree with anything that would end his tenure here. I think he deserves that

So it seems like the worm has turned from UPL is trash to Comrie is trash. The Comrie aspect is presumably based on his ONE NHL game back from injury?

It's more than that for me.

He had three good starts to begin the year.

In his 9 starts since, he's looked good in like 2 of them. That just isn't good enough.

There is zero issue keeping three in the rotation. There is plenty or roster flexibility if they use it right.

The plan right now IS UPL and Comrie as the Sabres two goaltenders, so they really should be playing Comrie as much as possible and getting him where they need him. UPL is doing alright, but lets not act like he is performing like a legit NHL 1A.

I would keep a 4 game rotation 1 UPL, 1 Comrie, and 1 Andersen, with the hot hand getting the extra game (UPL right now), and let performance dictate the rotation. If both Comrie and UPL are going then Andersen gives up his games.

For the Comrie haters out there....you better hope your wrong, or next year will be another long one.

I do not think it is Comrie hate. I think it is healthy skepticism because he has not played well.

It would be like calling people that were less than thrilled with Carter Hutton's play in Buffalo Hutton haters.

Quick transcription on Portillo:

Wanted to sign him last year.
"A player has the right if he so chooses, we think he's a very good prospect and have been working for a while to get him signed."
"We are in communication with his camp but it is a little bit out of our hands."
"He's a legitimate NHL prospect."
"Monitoring it" as his season ends.
Will continue to explore options.

How many of his starts had a healthy Mattias, Joker and Boosh?

Not sure Comrie gets a game going forward

UPL is playing the majority as he's established himself as the unquestioned starter. Anderson is a good enough backup
