The build, I assume you’re talking about the arena construction, was supposed to be completed by fall of 2027. So in time for the 2027-28 season. Which means 3 full seasons at the Mullett after this current one. But apparently there was a lot of push back from the players association about playing at Mullett arena. Reportedly some were even saying that it felt like they “weren’t in the NHL”. (Guess what? You’re going to feel the same at the Delta Center as well).

I suspect the league pushed Meruelo hard to sell to smith for relocation. Meruelo, played hard ball because his goal the entire time was the entertainment district with a sportsbook. Which he gets as owner of a professional sports team in Arizona. The compromise? The 5 year right to refuse clause. Meruelo builds his arena and ED in the same 3 year time frame(arena at least), exercises the clause and reactivates his dormant Coyotes franchise.

This is all just a random thought. Not one I completely believe myself, but a plausible one none the less.

Word is, Alex has to return that 1 billion to buy back the franchise though.
He can use the ED as collateral, and by then the franchise fee they say will be between 1.7 to 2 B. That is why Atlanta and Houston want in now.

Of course! Feel very strong sympathy for fans stuck with arena/ownership/criminals involved in a franchise!
I know back then you guys were playing in Brooklyn and the arena was bad for hockey.
Then you guys moved to Nassau and it was great. Now you have the new arena.
It worked out well after C.Wang sold his last shares.
Time flies. I remember that Trotz took over and we were really hyped ;D

I think we can cease the finger pointing at each other at this point.

AFAIC… Sniper’s warning at the top of the forum to outside people coming in to troll applies to everyone.

That isn’t saying we can’t have opposite opinions. But you all better keep it civil.

Problem is we’re never going to know what his true intent was. He could have really wanted this to work, but he grossly underestimated the environment he was working in.
We might, I mean…. I’d say if there’s any validity to the “return”, he could prove it. While it’s hard to say it now and with any luck will be easier (one day), I’ll be the first to admit…

Craig mentioned on one of the PHNX podcasts there are 31 people in hockey ops that have contracts expiring. Maybe this is more or less the norm, idk, but hopefully this doesn't create an exodus of some of the gems. I would expect the scouts shouldn't be an issue as they aren't based in AZ anyway. :dunno:
I think if they are BA’s folks he will likely convince the owner to bring them along if he wants them

Supposedly he has the same amount of cash as AM but is eager to spend

We'd better know next week. And not from XG. The only way Alex Meruelo can even begin to start to earn any trust is to appear personally and be transparent.

There is a better chance of monkeys flying out of my ass than that happening.
I dunno…. HF Sportsbook should put a prop bet out on whether or not Meruelo even shows up.

If I was a real betting man it’ll be Bill Armstrong.
