I said I would rather have Smith knowing we already have Celebrini. I agree Smith can’t be the best player on a cup winning team (he won’t have to be with Celebrini). I think the pure playmaking and offensive upside complements Celebrini better than all 3 of those players.

That’s very DW of him.

Except DW would have had the reporter sent to the Gulag for evening daring to ask the question

Makes me think the price to move up may be too rich unless it’s around picks 11,12,13. If a guy they didn’t think would fall is in that range, I bet MG moves up and sends 14 and maybe another pick next year? First guy that pops in my head is Silayev.

I know, same. “We will try to do everything and nothing, we will take someone, or maybe no one.”

90 point scoring wingers, which is Catton’s ceiling, are not easy to acquire via trade or free agency, actually.

What do Radko Gudas and Nikita Zadorov have in common? They’ve both been traded for and signed in free agency multiple times!
They also don't provide much value, that's the main reason why teams won't pay high prices for them.

It's really hard to win anything if you're paying Nylander, Panarin, Gaudreau, Huberdeau, Keller, or Fiala 9 million and that's a bargain contract for most of them. Investing in centers, defensemen, and two-way forwards is much more of a winning strategy.

Another year where a great two-way forward helps lead a team to the cup. Another reason we should be thrilled to be getting Celebrini:

2024: Barkov
2023: Stone
2020 & 21: Point (his teams were stacked so idk if this one means as much)
2019: O'Reilly
2009, 2016 & 17: Crosby
2010, 2013 & 2015: Toews
2012 & 14: Kopitar
2011: Bergeron
2008: Datsyuk

If you keep going back I'm sure there's more.

With coachability issues, not so good compete level, and being weak along the boards, I don't think the Sharks would take Eiserman with the 33rd pick.

5. Lindstrom
6. Dickinson
7. Buium
8. Sennecke
9. Iginla
10. Parekh
11. Helenius
12. Catton
13. Yakemchuk
14. Solberg
15. Eiserman
16. Hage

I think this is the big reason Sharks fans are really happy about Celebrini, he will bring that mentality to the Sharks org with him. The winners play good on the both sides on the ice and Sharks got the most important piece of the puzzle going forward. If we can build a behemoth of defensive core and Smith thrives as 2C/2nd best player on the team, we have a decent chance in the next 10-15 years.

Parekh-helenius-iginla-sennecke from 8-11, Eiserman/Connolly from 14-15. Then Jiricek/MBN/Greentree/Luchanko/solberg to 20. Hage is 24.

I know I’m in the minority but I kinda like the idea of taking Eiserman at 14 if we aren’t trading up to pick one of the top tier defenceman available. Elite shot and is a good friend of our number 1 prospect isn’t a bad addition. At that point you just hope our player development can improve his shortcomings.

Yep, I would agree with this. It's not the absolute worst case scenario and I think that after he is drafted another level of work begins with Eiserman. I'm a big believer that he can and will work through the short comings of his development so far, also the Celebrini connection is a good storyline for the upcoming years. If you can score with that amount of ammo at that age, there is something special.

I’m interested in it too. Ultimately I’m fine with almost any available options at 14, I’m hopeful we’ll be adding a useful player no matter.

I do think Yakemchuk and Eiserman have the highest potential ceiling though.

Solberg at 20 on Bob’s list. Jiricek at 16. I think it’s unlikely Grier would pick Solberg at 14. If they were to pick him, it’d seem more likely in a trade back scenario. Eiserman is who I would guess is the pick at 14 if he’s there.
