I’m crying thinking about Ceci missing the net by about 8ft tonight Lmao.
lol yup and then the comment right after that that he hasn't scored in like 100 and something games... and I looked at my son and said 'I wonder why'

Everybody hates Ceci. Meanwhile Ekholm getting a free pass from the board for what was a pretty poor game by his standards. Failed to mark his man on the first goal and got out skated several times on the outside. Poor pass selection as well. I’d give him a 3/10 for his game tonight.

Difference is Ekholm is usually really really good, and Ceci plays like this every night.

He's a tough goalie to beat, but the Oilers can score on him, and Iike their chances a lot better to win a 3-2 or 2-1 game this year than in previous years.

Can they though? Think we've played Vegas with him in net 5 times now and our record is 1 win - 4 losses and his save percentage must be approaching .950 against us at this point.

Skinner played pretty good, Hill was better and got some help from the posts. I hope I’m wrong but I think Hill is in their heads so I also hope Holland has a plan in place for some additions to get this team past Vegas in round 1. I really don’t want lose to that Twatwaffle of a franchise in the playoffs again.

Just ridiculous at the criticism that Drai keeps getting. It's basically so evident that if McDrai are not on their A game every game, their bashed for it, even though they'll play well enough, like tonight, but hay we lost so whose to blame? Draisaitl of course.

Meanwhile someone like Nuge with one goal in his last 11 games, a PP goal, while playing on the top line, always seems to be absolved from any criticism, it's always crickets when it comes to him somehow.

Definitely agree with your take on Skinner btw haha
Players on GDT get criticized for the real time mistakes they make. Draisaitl had plenty of wtf moments tonight. Just because he got bashed more than Brown or Nuge doesn't mean Brown or Nuge are better. It just means Draisaitl made more glaring mistakes.
The first 2 periods Drai deserved as much criticism as Ceci for their unforced errors

That Janmark - Ryan - Brown line was obviously an issue. That can't be the 4th line in the playoffs. That said, I fully expect the team to add a player or two who will help round out the forward group.

An add/trade I'd like is something like Ceci for Nico Sturm. 6'3, 210lb, can skate, currently 60% on the dot, and plays quality defence. He just brings zilch in the way of offence.

Imo it would round out the forwards beautifully by giving you a solid group of defensive 4th liners:
Janmark-Strum-Brown
Ryan

And a clear group for the top 9:
RNH-McDavid-Hyman
McLeod-Drai-Kane
Foegele-Holloway-Perry
Gags

Also please just staple McLeod to Drai. Although Foegele has a nice ability to randomly generate a ton chances for himself and he has put up some points, it always feels like "drive-by" offence and not really something that complements Drai and Kane. Meanwhile McLeod's ability to carry the puck and distribute it to his linemates definitely does though.

Hill read the play perfectly in some really good chances. We should have had a couple regardless though. Couple posts and misses.
I agree.
The Oilers made Hill the difference IMO.
They just didnt do enough with their chances.

Bouchard too. He was overhandling the puck far too much.
Draisaitl in the O zone looked like he just wasnt ready to play in a game with restricted time and space.

Goals the Oilers have scored against Hill (5 games):

McDavid - 4 goals
Foegele - 2 goals
Bjugstad - 1 goal
Ekholm - 1 goal
RNH - 1 goal
Bouchard - 1 goal
Hyman - 1 goal
Kane - 0
Draisaitl - 0
Everyone else - 0

Leon had 5 goals in game 1 + 2 against Broissoit and has 0 against Hill since. Drai + Kane + Hyman have 1 goal combined against him in 5 games.

That's not going to get it done, these three have to find a way to score against this guy.

McDavid is carrying all the scoring load.

Goalies are funny

I remmener how good Thompson looked like two years ago? Lehner played well.

I don't remember what happened last year. Was Thompson the main guy, brossoit the backup? Was Thompson injured then brossoit injured?

Can anything fall more into place? Hill is forced in and he's playing like Roy since

I honestly think Draisaitl has lasting effects from that AP slash. Shot has looked way off ever since last May/June. Absolutely despicable that AP only got one game for that. Can't take the NHL seriously when that is their standard of enforcement. Just another in the long list of reasons why I've started caring less and less about this league.

I think Thompson is a decent goalie, he's probably like a Skinner tier guy himself.

Hill is just on another level, I think he can legitimately make a case for being the best goalie in the world right now. No one had better save percentage than him in the playoffs, no one has a better one this season.

If this is a "heater", I have never seen anything like it, even Binnington cooled way off the season after his playoff run.

I think Desharnais has earned a promotion for next game and Ceci could use a demotion

What??? Hill was the best goalie in the playoffs last year and is the best goalie in the league this year. Vegas puts up a concrete wall in front of him, but when it breaks down, he makes every save. The guy is a vacuum on any loose change. Vegas taught us some lessons last year. Unfortunately, they aren't finished with the teaching.
Hill can FO.

My statement stands, precisely because of the reasons you stated.

Didn't bother to look until now. Skinner still has a 920% tonight

One of the rare games we lose with that number. I wonder if we even lost one in a loooong time getting 920
Sucks because he really didnt see any real dangerous scoring chances. The boys played really well defensively tonight.

Been saying it all along, we need a shooter on this top 6. Someone that rips the puck from distance, with intent, and with aplomb. Our lack of being able to keep goalies honest just lets the good teams collapse on us and shut us down.

We don't have really anyone that has a laser shot with a lightning quick release. Bouch can shoot from the back end, but he takes way too long and turns into shinpads sekera.

We have noone that can change release angles and get shots on from a distance and with power and accuracy. I want RL up asap or a trade for an actual scoring shooter winger.

Shooting ability is a huge issue with this team and it's going to cost us in loffs despite how well we are playing defensively.

We made hill look good on a lot of these chances. Shoot the puck right into him.

Pretty much describing Tarasenko there I think.
