Perhaps the current team and coach are just not meant for each other. Not that either are bad. Just maybe this team was overhauled way too much and there was a loss in translation with Torts that can't be fixed.

This is actually pretty obvious.

The team does not have the players to play the system Torts wants

I'm baffled that throughout this 6-game stretch where they have scored a total of 6 goals Torts hasn't even tried to put Hagelin - Stepan - Nash back together.

From my soccer experience, there is an obvious answer

There's teams that are underachieving. Not playing as well as they should be.

Option A: Keep the coach and keep underachieving for a long, long time

Option B: Get a new coach, and still do badly, but no worse than with the old coach

Option C: Get a new coach, and start winning

This game wasn't on torts. Rangers had close to 40 shots. Couldn't capitalize. Failed and wouldn't pull the trigger. However his line set up incompetency is his fault and it must change.

I'm usually the first in line to complain that the Rangers aren't registering shots and even though they did have 40 or close to 40 - whatever - honestly, how many of them were quality scoring shots? I would venture a guess that 60% of those shots were registered in the goalie's crest, logo.

Most every game are. However, I saw players staring at the puck on the crease. Just watching and not at the least attempting to bang it in.

40 shots, which most were from the outside with no screen or people going to the net. Markstrom played very well but the Rangers made it an easy 40 shots.

The team we had last year played a whole lot harder for Torts because they were capable of playing the system (prust, AA, dubi, feds, etc). We still couldn't score for crap but they bought into the system. This team as constructed this year is NOT buying into the system anymore, and they aren't made for it.

I also think mentally theyre over it.

Dont underestimate that.

Realistically, what are they gonna do? Follow up last year with another amazing year? That was a year for the ages (at least for this franchise). They defied odds all season. They were underdogs.

I fully expected a regression this season and here we are. Now we got all the wrong scapegoats.

Its Tortorella who has to go. This roster has too much talent on it to be the way it is. Wouldnt be surprised to see them do better under a new coach/system.

I honestly don't think this team is all that talented. At least in terms of offensive prowess.

certainly better than 6 goals in 6 games...

The Kings had these same problems last year, playing a similar system, had players underperforming etc, they didn't trade their stars, they changed management and their system, and the rest was history. Not saying it would happen again, but its a better idea first changing coaching rather than blowing up a team.

Keenan won a cup in 94. That's not a reason for a team to hire him now. His methods and strategies are outmoded. The same is happening with Torts. He's allergic to change, a major flaw. Those who don't adapt, become extinct. It's happening before our eyes with Torts.

To me, it's attitude.

If we play the game like we played the last 5 minutes, we win by a wide margin. 5-2.

We looked like we wanted to win. We looked deadly in those last 5 minutes.

Try starting a game like that. Get the first goal. Take it from there.

I don't care if you're playing Pittsburgh or Florida. Shots were soft because they didn't get to rebounds with a killer attitude. If you don't have the killer attitude, you're going to lose a lot of games. You're going to lose to Florida.

and that organization fired him. torts has a shelf life and he has outstayed his welcome here

All coaches have a shelf life or are you forgetting that Mike Keenan has been fired from like 7 jobs?? How about Hitchcock?? He's been fired from 3 jobs!

Torts is just to stubborn for his own good. Change your ****** system, allow chemistry to develop, hell even hire a 2nd assistant. I mean seriously, he won't hire a PP specialist because why? He doesn't like 3 coaches on the bench? Brilliant!

I heard his circle of friends, circle of trust is very small. I think it only consists of Sully.

You wanna salvage the season you fire the coach and see if they respond with more effort . If not they were losing anyway and you start again next year .

The Torts haters are really getting annoying after each loss. It has nothing to do with the system. It is not suffocating offense. This is the most ridiculous thing that has somehow become accepted on these boards. If this team had the players to be able to carry the puck into the offensive zone, make beautiful transition plays, and tape to tape passes... they would do it -- and in games where things are clicking, they DO in fact DO THAT. It's not like before those games Torts says "Hey guys, **** the system, go out and be creative offensively tonight." Seriously?

The way teams play in the neutral zone, the dump and chase is just a fact of life and sometimes a player's best and only option unless you want a team full of JT "turnover machine" Millers. It is a part of the game. Every team dumps and chases, this is not just a Rangers phenomenon -- ****ing get used to it if you're going to watch hockey. The idea that Torts refuses to let players be creative offensively is asinine.

This team just has a group of players who have mediocre skill offensively mixed in with a select few who are more skilled (or at least have the potential to be). They had 40+ shots tonight (lots of perimeter shots, but plenty of rebounds that they didn't do the hard work to get to). And despite the high # of perimeter shots, they even had plenty of good scoring chances that they just failed to finish. Halpern in front of the net. Before his late goal, several Gabby chances where he continues to try to go five-hole like a ****ing dumb ****. Nash with about as clear a break at the net as you're going to get... and he friggin passes... to Gabby?

The team played down to Florida's level. It was as simple as that. When a team does that, and doesn't have the killer instinct to dismantle another team that is clearly worse than them, they deserve to lose. That's what happened.

There are plenty of other things to be frustrated with the team and Torts about. But stop with the "system" ********.

SO tired of shots from 75 degree and sharper angles. How often does this team get open shots from the slot? Y'know, between the circles - the PRIME scoring areas?

I'm sorry, but Rick Nash, Marian Gaborik, Brad Richards, Derek Stepan, Ryan Callahan, Carl Hagelin, etc. are a damn fine top six in terms of skill in today's NHL. Hell, the team overall has a lot more skill than last year. And yet they're still trying to score damn near every goal from beneath the goal line. So frustrating.
