I'm not saying Torts is the only problem, but I really think we should see this roster with a new coach before we do anything else. There's talent here. I'd like to give it a chance with a new environment before heading in a new direction.

Agreed, the Rangers got to see what pieces stay or go before the summer. Schoenfeld would make sense as an interm coach until Sather can look at options over the summer...
 
after his PC last night where he said he doesn't teach offense only defensive positioning, I'm 100% done with Torts
 
So did Torts. He openly admitted he doesn't go over offense at all. His system is to try to get the puck out of our zone by using only the boards. Lol. Wonder how teams will stop us with such a brilliant system in place. No wonder we always get bull rushed every game.

This is the only reason I would advocate firing him.

Look at LA last year, look at the Ducks this year. The problem is who replaces him, and what if everyone still slumps? You'd like to think all these guys find their game under a new banner, but should they not the team just fired their Jack Adams finalist for the same end result under someone else.

He'll be here until at least next season.

Right; just what we need, "Psycho Mike" who alienated the whole freakin team, was plotting his way out 2 months before the playoffs began, benched Brain Leetch causing a near mutiny during the playoffs, and undermined Neil Smith every step of the way!
There's a reason why "Psycho Mike" was fired from 6-7 organizations during his coaching tenure.
 
Really sad the demise is here as I thought we had a great team in the makings this year, but the Emporers clothing hath been revealed. Not a day too soon. Torts ? - he is done now.

No to McGuire, Psycho Mike, Gernander, Messier, Ruff, Bully Burke, Sather and Schoney. Just NO.
We need a hockey lover now, a tactician. Names that interest me are therefore Dallas Eakins, tony Granato ( yes! And we played together a kids btw), anyone named bowman and hold on........... Leif Boork.

If Torts is moved(and I'm thinking that is really unlikely this season), its probably going to be Schoenfeld acting as a intermediary until the summer.

This is actually true, and why we get ****ed by teams like the Devils.

The team has to learn how to get the puck up the middle of the ice.
 
Dont make a panic move like Neil Smith used to. Let Torts coach until the very end of the season. As much as I hate him, he deserves that.

I dont think it's an issue like he "lost the room" or the players "arent responding".

I just think it's Murphy's biting them in the rear.

I'd make a trade before I fire Torts.
 
And I like to use the 1995 Devils as an example. Some similarities:

--They were mediocre, drafted well, added some vets, then went to the CF. The next season was a strike season, they got off to a horrible start, then made two key trades (Neil Broten and Chambers I think) and it all came togther in the playoffs.

But, the next season, they missed the playoffs. 1st Cup champ to do so IIRC.Three straight years after that, they were upset in the playoffs in the early rounds. Then they became a mini-Dynasty with three SCF appearance in four years.

While Lou did have a coaching carousel in that period, the point is you have to be patient.

But then again, I'm not watching any games this year, so it's easy for me to remain patient. If I got to see them play as poorly as you say theyve been playing, I might be singing a different tune.
