So we have a coach who took us to the league semifinals....within two games of the Stanley Cup finals...first time ANYTHING has been accomplished here with a team put together by Sather...and we want to fire him 25 games into the next season because his team is 13-10-2?

YUP...except that it was strictly the King who took us way above where we should have been last season and is why so many envision grandeur in the days ahead...we are a long ways from that unfortunately .

I know everybody hates a realist...but the obvious is so obvious . Maybe it is easier for somebody that is older to realize that fact...we are just an average team with the current roster/coaching/management and an above average goalie . What is it going to take for some of you to realize this ....another 7 game squeaker against the 8th seed again ?

There could be a lot of unhappy people on here come the Trade Deadline when we get to watch Sather flip some youth for short term gain . I say...don't allow that to happen...can him ASAP .

Ripping into Sam? What is wrong with this schmuck? Ask the guys why they lost? How about your stupid Defense First system hamstringing our capable offense!! Defense First? We have a Vezina Trophy goalie and some of the best D-Men pairs in the league!! You keep ripping the guys publically. "We suck", "Our top guys stink", yea that should really breed some confidence in Gaborik...on the RW..

Bottom line for me and I'm sure many will contest, but the guys have lost faith in the "system" and its hurting their confidence. Their strengths aren't being utilized properly and I wouldn't be surprised if deep down inside their feeling a bit lost and frustrated. Torts needs to go and that CLASSLESS IMMATURE BLAME GAME excuse of a post game was the last straw.

Thanks for letting me vent guys.

Can't really disagree with this post.

I totally disagree with this. It's easy to revise history to make your point. I do agree, however, that Hank is not playing as well as he did last year.

Torts system worked..... last season. When he had a different roster. A huge chunk of the guys he played that season with are gone now, yet he refuses to change things up and actually try and score any goals with his offensively loaded team. When it doesn't work out, yell at the media a bit and go on and try the same thing again the next game. I'm pretty tired of him at this point. I am sick of watching grind grind grind grind. Haley on the top line? Hahahahaha

Not the way to think. Our goalie is WORLD CLASS. Among the best in the world. He saved us so much in the playoffs. Our offense is a bad joke. "Defense first". It apparently equates to dump and chase on a 4 on 2 or not even get a shot off. The line juggling is an issue. Misusing players. And this happens a lot.

wrong. I consider myself a realist too, but you are overgeneralizing here. Your goalie is supposed to be one, if not your best player in post season, that is not a strange new phenomenon exclusive to the NYR.

To say that the team in front of Hank wasn't playing better last year is pure crap. Richards had an immediate impact last year (where it went???) and we had a pretty good offense for most of the season, until it dried up. Our defense was much tighter last year than it's been so far.

This team is playing average, but we are far from an average team. Unfortunately we have a one size fits all coach in practically every aspect of the game and he can't get this squad to play his system every game. It's far too strenuous as way to win every game.

One size fits all is a ....fitting....statement. This team simply is not the grind team it was last year. They can open up the game... Wish Torts would try letting them, at least a line with Nash and Hagelin, freewheel a little more.

I find it odd how the team doesn't play well, all 20 players, and yet the coach is smothering them. Has he stopped Gaborik from skating? Stopped Richards from distributing the puck? Has he specifically told them to suck on the PP? Take dumb penalties?

Player personnel problems are often that last thing to be admitted by a fanbase. They want, so badly, to believe that they have a solid team in place thats being held back by outside factors - most of the time, thats the coach. Tortorella is being scapegoated at this point. The misinformation on this board about a host of issues, particularly the system he wants this team to play, is appauling. Its astounding that some people can watch hockey for so long and form these conclusions.

You want to know why this team cant get out of nuetral? Its because their #1 center, 40 goal scorer wing from last season, and the entire bottom 6 are playing like **** this season.

Funny how this thread get so much attention when we lose one game.

We lose? Fire Torts!
Hey looks like Nash didn't score, TRADE HIM!

Not even. When the Rangers win, we are happy they won. Most of the time it's a 1 goal game. Grind grind grind. We still know it's there.

I have literally zero idea why you or any other fan would condone getting into a track meet with some of the other teams in this conference/division.

Tortorella only seems to smother creativity during losses. Its weird how that works.

I don't think anyone who is balanced is saying that... Torts is one of the issues with this team, but the players shoulder the burden of why we look so anemic most nights.

To say that Tortorella's coaching style, system, and decision making is impacting this team negatively is simply turning a blind eye.

we play a system that requires extreme discipline, and athleticism in order to be successful, not to mention a defensive system that runs the risk of losing any player to a substantial injury any game...

His constant yelling and ripping players can only go on for so long...

No reason why the lines constantly change. I can't remember a coach in the last 20 yrs who changed the lines as much as he does, creating the most asinine pairings i've ever witnessed...

Refuses to coach a PP, relies far too much on instinctual play from his team, which leads me to believe they rarely work on improving actual gameplay. They do the same things game in, game out...

He wasn't wrong. They have to play better. I'm tired of hearing about how his system ruins creativity. Turn on a Bruins game, they use the same stretch pass tip in and they dump it in a ton as well. If you want to watch offense become an Islanders or Lightning fan and see how frustrating it is to see your team give up 3+ goals a night. But hey, you got to see some "creativity".

Yes and yes to all of it. Still, Torts is not without blame or scrutiny either. For instance playing Gaborik on the off-wing when he himself has stated he is not that comfortable with it. I'm not making excuses for Gabs, but the last time he went from 40 goals to half that it was based off injury and tentative play. So here we are again one year removed from 40 and he is playing tentative again. Maybe it's the surgery, but whatever it is, playing him LW is clearly not helping, and that's on Torts.

Exactly right. Add to the list that the team doesn't have a 3rd line center capable of creating any sort of offense and the team will struggle. The Bruins struggled until they were able to bring in Kelly and Peverly to solidify their 3rd line scoring. You need 2-way players on your 3rd line.

Pyatt is a good example. Miller is too young. Boyle is a 4th liner. (2) 4th lines.

Oh absolutely. I have plenty of issues with Tortorella. Im just sick of the mindless posts that pin everything on him and absolve the players - half of whom don't show up on any given night.

People are getting pissed that Haley was moved up to take Gaborik's spot with Stepan and Callahan? Why? Haley played infinitely better than Gaborik was playing. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. But somehow, it turns into, 'OMG, hes changing lines so much and smothering creativity, thats why we're losing!!!!" It has very little basis in fact.

This is why Boyle should get moved to upgrade our 3C.

Pyatt is slow, and not looking like the upgrade to Feds that i thought he would be. total non impact player, exactly the type of player we should AVOID bringing...

go ahead and tell me how good he is along the boards....

no, that has little basis in fact... it's not just the Haley move, the only thing consistent about his lines is that they are inconsistent... Torts has said as much in post games that he doesn't believe in any lines...

sometimes i wonder if the people who call out others for not really watching the games or paying attention are in fact...

watching the games and paying attention... :sarcasm:

This is why Boyle should get moved to upgrade our 3C....

"Boyle is not good enough to be the Rangers' 3rd line center"

"We should move Boyle to upgrade 3rd line center"

How does that work with a trading partner? I think I've just entered the twilight zone.
