Not really. Everyone knew Kovalchuk was going to be a free agent. There were reports out of Russia that virtually guaranteed he would be as much as two years beforehand. It was another blunder by Sather. Not because Gaborik has been bad, but because he's no Kovalchuk. Better, more dynamic, less injury prone player with a smaller cap hit. And he wanted to come to the Rangers.

Imagining Kovalchuk and Nash on the same team is just....man.
