ESPN New Hampshire’s “The Stretch Run†with Pete Sheppard and Jimmy Murphy took #VeseyWatch to the airwaves today, debating the possible landing spots for Harvard star and one-man free agent frenzy Jimmy Vesey. Murphy revealed his prediction to be the New Jersey Devils, based on some inside information, as well as the plethora of USA Hockey connections.

And then Lou Lamoriello showed up...

Seen this movie before. Will wait a few days before "making up his mind" something that was done months ago. This waiting period for a few days will ensure no grievances against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

It'll be either Toronto or Buffalo.

NYR, BOS and NJ don't come close in terms of young talent.

By the time Vesey is in his prime, most of the key players in those three organizations will either be retired or fading.

If I were Vesey, I think I'd take Toronto over Boston just based on where the teams are at. Toronto's a young team on the rise and Boston's an old team heading the other way.

Two first rounders this year, three first rounders the year before, but continue

First of all the Devils are one of the youngest teams. Second of all they have good young talent. They just don't draft top 5 year after year. And how did all those high work out for the Oilers. When you get a defense and goaltending come talk trash.

If he signs with New Jersey that team is suddenly looking up and coming.

Jimmy Vesey isn't a game-changer.

At least not enough to make up the difference between NJ and either Toronto or Buffalo.

Buffalo is a rival but I can without prejudice state that they're future is scary good.

He's not picking NJ over Buffalo.

They do have good young talent.

Toronto and Buffalo have elite young talent.

Big difference.

If he comes to the Leafs it's just gravy.

They don't need him, but it would be nice to have another good piece.

If he comes to the Leafs, it's just TAMPERING!

I hope that Nashville sues TML for $10M (US, of course).

They don't need him? A team that hasn't won the SC since 1967? This season (2016-17) will make 50 years of stupidity in Toronto. I meant futility.

The Leafs fans don't care. They have been conditioned over the last half century like Pavlov's dog, and expect nothing. IIRC, no playoffs last year for the Leafs.

Nashville beat the Ducks in 7 games and then lost to the Stanley Cup Finalist Sharks in 7 games. Vesey is getting bad advice!

Nashville can't file tampering charges on Toronto, after having traded his rights to Buffalo.

I've seen this name a lot in the trade rumors forum. I know very little about him besides the Hobey Baker he won a few years ago. Is Vesey a highly touted prospect?

He's probably going to be a very nice complimentary player.

I think, given his skill set, he could be a future 50 point winger.

I can't imagine a handful of mid-late 1sts is going to be a big determining factor in Vesey's decision-making process, at least relative to marquee young talent on other teams.

I was replying to someone talking about the Bruins "aging". With all the picks we have had recently, it couldn't be farther from the truth.

As far as Vesey is concerned, if talent - directly related to the possibility of contending for a Cup - was priority #1, he should have signed with Nashville. I think they're are the up and coming team that will be a serious contender for the next 2-5 years. I think we will see Nashville raising the Cup within that time frame, possibly more than once.

If pure talent - on paper - is the main concern, then Edmonton is the choice by far.

The way I see it, if he wants to stay in the Northeast, the reason must be family related - it just can't be because he likes NE clam chowda, right? So if that's the case, his hometown team is the choice.

In any case, this soap opera about him, is enough for me. I don't really care where he goes. I don't think that he will be such an impact player like an Eichel for example. Godspeed to him: go wherever you like, Vesey.

Okay, the Sabres can sue TML for tampering.

I noticed that you skipped over the lack of playoffs and 50 years of no Cups.

If I was a lawyer, and I thought that I could prove that TML interfered with Nashville's ability to sign their own draft pick, I would sue anyway. Unfortunately, the laws in the US allow you to sue almost anybody over almost anything. We don't have the English Rule. I wish that the laws would be changed, but about half of Congress are lawyers.

I'd be surprised if he didn't land in:

NJD, NYR, TOR, BUFF or CHI.

I still have this feeling that he's been TOR's all along and everything up til now was just smoke and mirrors.
Reason i say that is the interview Vesey gave not a month ago talking up Bos.

I think we can all agree we're just happy you aren't a lawyer.

Zboril, Senyshyn,Debrusk, Charles Mcavoy (Ill give you this one), Frederic? Really that's Boston's selling point.

Not to mention Vesey will have to overlook the passing of Barzal, Connor and literally almost anyone else over Senyshyn and Debrusk in that first round.

Ah well, if it's draft+1, it must be a sure thing then...

Jimmy Vesey draft+1: 11G, 18P in 27GP
Jimmy Vesey draft+2: 13G, 22P in 31GP
Jimmy Vesey draft+3: 32G, 58P in 37GP
Jimmy Vesey draft+4: 24G, 46P in 33GP

Yep, if you don't dominate in draft+1, you are hosed.

Problem is the Devils don't have that big elite #1 center you need to win the cup nowadays. Would be strange if he chose the Devils over the Buffalo or Toronto.
