Very interesting. I'm surprised that he would give them an excuse like this, instead of simply saying "not interested". For his sake he shouldn't really be speaking with Chicago now unless he doesn't want a very bad reputation, which already isn't too good.

Vesey's reputation 3-4 years from now when he becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent will have 0% to do with what he told a declining team 4 years ago and 100% to do with his play. I don't think he is too worried.

You can face palm all you want. Doesn't stop it from being true.

You post as if the Devils have no shot, saying "At least they got to dream for a day." So of course when a tread was made about Vesey being in the Devils line-up, you had to jump in. Lets not forget how highly their Agent talks about the Rangers, and the real front running teams will meet with him tomorrow. Are you really telling me you don't believe he signs with the Rangers, or are you just being picky on the words "So Sure."

There is a big difference with saying the Rangers are a front runner and have a good chance to land him to "I'm SO SURE the Rangers land him" which I have never said. But keep interpreting things how you see fit and i'll keep letting you know that you don't speak for me.

Got no beef with Vesey. Nashville got a 3rd back for him, and Buffalo knew the risks of trading for his rights when they made the deal.

To everyone criticizing him and calling him selfish and entitled, he isn't Lebron James or Kevin Durant. He's a 23-year-old college grad without ridiculous athlete money who is being courted by multiple top NHL teams. Why not listen to their offers, let them buy you dinner, meet their top players and have them sell you on their franchises?

It's very likely he'll never get the opportunity to be courted like this again, so why not take advantage of the experience when you have it? The entire hockey world is focused on you, why not enjoy it?

While I agree completely, for a team that's not on the west cost (a la LA, SJ, etc), giving something that specific just seems odd. I mean there's so many acceptable ways for Vesey to tell a team that he's not interested - from blowing them off with the "I'll think about it" to just saying that he doesn't think the fit is right. These guys are pros and like you said are not going to take it personally.

I'd be pissed if Vesey went to Pittsburgh. Lol.

Why? Pittsburgh has a lot they could offer him (2016 champs, two world class centers to play with and strong contenders for 2017+) . Would I be disappointed if he went to NYR? Sure, but no more so then if he went anywhere else in the EC.

If I'm him, NYR are a team with a bunch of old defenseman and an older goalie that will retire soon. I think the NYR are a team on a decline. Toronto fits his age and is a team on the rise. Devils while having a fairly young team, they're still a little unknown, but close to home. I think the Bruins probably make the playoffs this year and it's close to home and his father is sick. Probably would pick there if I was in his situation. Pittsburgh and Chicago the positives are obvious but I think the distance from home would matter to me. I understand you travel a lot. But having your dad be around for 42 home games would be amazing. Whatever decision he makes, I hope he succeeds cause he seems like a great kid.

I'm of the opinion the dude isn't anything too special but the fact that it would piss everyone off has entertainment value out the ass so I'm really hoping he comes here. Doubt he does but mannn that would be funny

It is going to be glorious when this kid flops and is a permanent AHL fixture in 2 - 3 years.

Oh thats good - hoping that a human being doesn't do well so you can be right on a forum board.

Thankfully Vesey doesn't care about this and he will be making millions while you just post on here.

Sounds like a canned response to a team he doesn't have an interest in. I think Chicago would be perfect for him, followed by Boston and NYR.

Obviously I'm a Chicago fan but I agree with this regarding a canned response.

I have a hard time believe Chicago would have wasted time if it was completely about staying in the north-east

Also, it could be something such as - Detroit is not a good enough opportunity to forgo being close to home

Chicago might be.. who knows...

Vesey definitely wanted to be polite to Detroit. He didn't want to tell them that he didn't want to play for a mediocre team.

Probably not, but at 34 how long do you (and more importantly Vesey) see him as one of the league's best who will lead his team to the post season? 2 years? 3 years? Maybe 4 years? NYR is going to change as Lundqvist ages and goes from one of the top 2-4 goalies in the league to one of the top 10 to top 20/30 as he ages.

Haven't we heard that the 2nd contract is a big thing for Vesey? I can't imagine Chicago is a real player if that's the case, all things considered with a few of their RFA sacrifices recently, and no real cap relief in sight with a few of those contracts.

Of course a lot can change, but even with the 2 year ELC, followed by a 2 year bridge, the Hawks still have Kane/Toews/Hossa/Anisimov/Seabrook/Keith on the books four seasons from now.

I'm not saying to count Chicago out, but I'd be surprised if he lands there.

Detroit trying to send Fabian Brunnstrom as one of their team reps probably swayed his choice.

Could be 4 years, could be 6 years...who knows. In 4 years he is almost a UFA so he can leave. That's all assuming the Rangers never decided to get another goalie. We have 2 decent goalie prospects in the pipe so who knows.

So players on other teams stopped having birthdays? Where is this fountain of youth that Chicago uses to keep its players so young and spry?

Feel the same. If my dad was ill and he is, I want to live by my family.
