Everyone is coach on hfboards, it seems like.

I like the player Newbury is. If he gets Kreider going then why the hell not. I think Torts could have just put Kreider w Cally and Step and that would have been enough but if he's unwilling to do that then why the hell not?

Not like our current bunch of players are getting the job done. We need more grit, more energy. Newbury might not be the smartest but he at least provides that and is personally credited for Kreider's hot streak.

Don't hate the move.

Just because Newbury and Kreider worked in CT doesn't mean it will here

Just shows how desperate we are. This year is definitely a transition year. We're literally just throwing **** against the wall and seeing what sticks.

i like this callup tbh. we have no toughness. he had clear chemistry with kreider in the minors. it's worth a shot. we're not doing anything with our bottom six anyway, may as well see what we can do to get kreider flowing. boyle looked like he was everywhere that kreider wanted to be last night.

I don't like Newbury because he has done absolutely nothing in the several times we've called him up and as others have said, having Chemistry with CK in the AHL is nice but that means nothing up here.

i agree he hasn't done anything up here and he probably won't this time, but if there's a chance that it gets kreider going and there's a slight chance that newbury plays well with kreider up here, then it's a chance that i can't see have a problem with taking... without halpern OR miller we don't have many options for center depth unfortunately.

Not for nothing, but Mitchell's chemistry with Hagelin was a huge factor in his confidence and success on arriving in the NHL. If this is the reason they bring up Newbury and it helps Kreider gain a whole ton of confidence at this level, this kind of move is worth it even if Newbury himself doesn't pay off in the long run.

I mean, its nice that he had chemistry with him in the AHL but the the discrepancy in skill level is astronomical. Newbury has proven to me time and time again that he just can't manage in the bigs. But like you said, the chance that he might have something with Kreider really can't hurt at this point. It's not like our bottom 6 are world killers.

Newb has a pulse and will drop em , go hard to the net and do whatever it takes . After the minus 4 disaster in MTL he earned the wrath of Torts and would not get a fare shake again. I rather have him and Haley than some of the passionless soft big guys like Boyle and PYatt .

They drop Halpern to bring in quite possibly the most useless NHL player I've ever seen.

I have a big mouth, so not very often do I run out of things to say, but I've run out of things to say about the New York Rangers :help:

an signing or trade must be close. Newbury over a proven solid player like Halpern :help:

I can only hope there's something in the works, because if they just simply chose Newbury over Halpern.......like I said there's words for that.

I agree. I really cannot see how management would think Newbury is a better piece in anyway, barring maybe offensively, than Halpern. The fact he was claimed off waivers alone is a testament to that. If they waived Jeff just to waive him, then there is a serious issue with talent evaluation going on somewhere. Halpern was a serviceable 4C who brought something to the table in every facet of the game except goal scoring.

I really nope it's nothing more than a move for a legit 3C and Boyle is moved to 4C.

He'll get about 6-8 minutes, take a penalty, lose a fight, and never be seen again.

or maybe, just maybe, this time will be different.

miller is tentative for tomorrow-- that could be the only reason that newbury is up for all we know

Yes, Newb would at least make sense as a call-up for an injured Miller, or as insurance. He's definitely not a replacement for Halpern.

If his purpose is to bring a comfort zone to Kreider as a jumping point, then who cares if he puts up points or not?

Because I'd rather not waste a roster spot on a cheerleader.

Then you can thank whatever you believe in that you aren't running this hockey team, because there's a chance Hagelin wouldn't have progressed as fast as he has without your so-called cheerleader wasting a roster spot when he first broke with the team.

I'm not saying it will work with Kreider the same way, but it's definitely worth a shot.

man there seems to be a lot of hate on newbury lol. Dont get me wrong he isnt a longterm answer but if miller is hurt and fast wont be here here until next week we might as well see if he can duplicate his chemistry with kreider

the point is: with halpern and miller out, there isn't really much to choose from at center. who else would you use for that 3c (or even 4c) spot?

Would you agree with this call up if Kreider was still in CT and him crediting Newb for his success never happened?

Of course not. I think you are misinterpreted. I never said i liked newbury. In fact i agree with people about him. However if miller is hurt fast isnt here yet and now halpern is gone there arent many options to be honest

I have no problem with that. I mean hopefully we are only talking about 1 or 2 games. This way miller is back soon along with fast. Torts said halpern was waived for flexibility so that means either a trade is imminent or fast is coming very soon

My previous post says that it's worth a shot. I just don't like newbury.

Also, I think I'll credit Hagelin for helping himself. Newburys whopping coffee cup here seems negligible.
