I should note that I am not a fan of the "enforcer" but more of team toughness and having the ability to stand up for yourself and your teammates.

I am as well, but you can't stand up for your teammates or protect them in any way if you're sitting on the bench for 55 minutes a night.

I'm all for team toughness, especially in the Atlantic, but I'd prefer to have someone who can BOTH play hockey and act as a deterrent. Guys like Scott and Bickel are too one-dimensional, and in a 48 game sprint you can't have someone on the bench 55 minutes a game. The defense is gassed as is.

Will agree. Guys like Lucic, Clowe, Ott are the ones we need.

Or you know, we can have our guys develop instead of getting a goon who is gonna play for 2 minutes a night and waste the spot. Kreider has the size and physicality. He just needs some more IQ and common sense. Same with Miller. Both can be big and at least powerful.
 
I agree with dagoon that we need a heavy in the game most nights . We have a few guys on our team that just simply cannot protect themselves . We all have watched Staal throw them down....LOL and he probably is a whole lot better than BR & Gabby . We also have a lot lesser guys that add nothing in the toughness dept as well .

Our team is certainly not built that well and it reflects on the fact that we don't have a new hybrid type of guy patrolling the wings for us that many teams already have that can both play and scrap...maybe if we had a GM that was not a dinosaur we might have one here by now or at least on the way !

I also watched a lot of 70's hockey and BTW...you forgot about a great fighter that Mark Janssens was when he got throwing them and that was after suffering a really bad concussion earlier in his career . I also was a big fan of Troy Mallette .
 
Just going to bump this to say Haley has looked good. Fits his role well. Skates well. Stirs it up when needed. Seems like a smart player as well. This is exactly why I was excited for when he was signed. He is more than a tough guy. Hope he sticks, the team needs a player like him
 
Asham lost his job last night from what I saw. Only room for one and Haley is younger faster and better,.

i never understood the signing of Asham when Haley was signed.... was shocked they sent him to the AHL.. i cant wait til the Rangers vs Penguins on Saturday.. let Haley stir it up like he did when he fought Johnson and Talbot a few years ago.
 
since rd seems to be an issue in that 6th spot.. how pyett? he seems like hes doing well for the whale, why hasnt he been called up?

He's a good AHL player. That's it though. Wouldn't be an upgrade over anyone we already have on the roster.
 
We already have enough AHL'ers on the team already . However if he comes to play every shift...we still have a few openings available on a game to game basis . Please apply to Sather @ NYRhockey . :naughty:
 
Anybody else thinking they're gonna do something in that department? Call up Ferriero or Thomas maybe? Who'd get sent down though? Haley (I don't think so), Miller? Sit Boyle?

Would give us (not what I think it should be, but what I think it would be).

Conlusion: The NYR need a 3rd liner, if Kreider isn't ready for top 6 duty, pushing Pyatt down. Pyatt in the top 6 pains me, though I like the type of player he is.
 
Kreider should be in New York for tomorrow night's game. It's a crime he isn't here already. His game is obviously back judging by how he's played since being sent down.

Remember when CK went out against the Devils in game 6 and was just slaughtering everyone? Kid needs to throw the body a bit more. Haven't seen him do it since that game.

He has been doing that in the AHL. I think the bone ship injury and the jaw injury he got from the orpik hit really messed him up for a while. But i think he is getting back to form now

Great to hear, if that's the case. Unlike a bunch of these other speedy players in the NHL, he's also ****ing huge lol. He can turn himself into a missile.

He has 5 goals so far and 6 pts in 7 games. He has 3 pp goals and 1 shorthanded. The biggest problem is Torts. he doesnt use the kid correctly. He is trying to turn him into a grinder who block shots all the time. Thats not kreider's game he is a scorer/finisher. his speed and size is great esepcially in front of the net. Maybe one day soon Torts will wake up
 
Let CK keep getting back to form. Why are you going to call him up and let Torts bench him again after one mistake because this season is becoming an abortion? There is no reason for him to be back up this year.

Fine if thats the case then we better fire Torts. he will never use this kid correctly and will continue to bench him. I mean Tirts loves miller because he is a grinder BUt he also is a turnover machine and cant shoot. yet he gives miller chance after chance which he never did for CK
