Did Sweeney/The Bs always do a presser on deadline eve? I must be getting old.

I expect him, as well as any GM, to keep things generic. He'll say he they don't have anything imminent but they wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't listen. Yadda yadda.

Even if there was something imminent, in the works, or even if there was a player position he'd like to fill....I highly doubt he'd tip his hand or divulge ANY information, for many (very predictable) reasons.

The only real question I'd ask is "What the eff is the point of this press conference?"

You are the numbah one Donnie Club fan. They all have potential, but guess what? None of those guys are consistent NHLers. To gloat over a trade where the best so far is a guy can't even stick in the lineup on the third pairing is dumb. If he hits on them great, but so far it's been a negative impact.

I don't think many were opposed to that one.

I would love to see him add a non-rental to this core while they have the ability to play at this level and would applaud him doing so.

He has hit (Marchand) and missed (Beleskey) on his signings, hit (Lucic trade) and missed (Stempniak, Liles, Rinaldo trades) on trades and hit (Carlo) on drafting so far.

Not a bad record at all but everything seems to be pointing to a focus and fruition in 2018-2019 when his prospects are expected to have developed and this core is on their final legs.

I disagree when the only consistent NHL player in the deal has an albatross


Fact of the matter is a lot of people would have been unhappy no matter what they do. Two weeks ago they were a trash bottom feeder with no hope, now they should surrender assets for rentals. I just don't get it

Not one single fan here was ever on Sweeney's case for a single second for not making that trade. Let's not generalize and label inaccurately here. No one once.
