This sets the table for yet another ninth place finish.

Hard for me to understand why this should be considered a good thing.

I agree. But no high end prospects are worth 1 playoff appearance... Later round picks sure idc, or a hockey deal that will help next year would be great, but rentals help the team play an additional 4-7 games that's it... They arent cup caliber so all eyes need to be towards the future.

We're making the excuses for management so they don't even have to!

"Would rather no trade than a lousy trade."

"Would rather not give up assets if we're just gonna finish poorly anyway."

It's the easiest any management team has ever had it. They get to sit on their thumbs and their fan base will give them a standing ovation.

It's not a good thing, but it's a better approach than many of the alternatives.

They're probably just not a good enough team to warrant trading anything higher than a 3rd/low-end prospect for available help, and somewhat unfortunately, the players they already have are likely better than anyone they could get while only giving up those types of assets.

This approach is half an indictment of this year's trade market, and half a recognition of just how solid our prospect pool really is.

I'm an outlier here but if they deal prospects for a Landeskog I'm ok with that

But Eaves type deals I pass

I would not deal any draft pick that didn't involve a lower one coming back

I hate rentals

I would HATE to see Sweeney make a deal simply to keep his job but on the other hand

The other day someone on here said that "the Friday before the trade deadline is the busiest trade day during the season" or something like that.
I guess Donny the S has never heard that?!?

Go look at the UFA rental options on the following teams:

Detroit
Carolina
New Jersey
Arizona
Colorado
Dallas
Vancouver

Which rentals would you want? What would you give up?

Note that the Bruins can't trade that 2nd from Edmonton, and don't have a 3rd or 5th this year.

You dont make moves for the sake of making a move. Thats how you end up in the basement of the league.

What Ainge did was right based on the ridiculous asking prices and the depth of that roster. Sweeney shouldnt be trading a bunch of picks for some ****** rental player that wont even move the needle.

Sometimes staying the course is the exact right move. Theres a ton of talent coming up and were already missing a bunch of picks thanks to him doing last year, what you all want him to do this year.

I didn't realize that they used those picks already....BLAH!

They do have an abundance of young talent in the minors etc. I would think that they would/should be very enticing to most teams (Avs, Sabres, Dallas )etc.

Is kaberle our best rental and what he cost

Oh really, that's brilliant never thought of that. But who said to "make a move for the sake...." ????
Find where I said that!

Only 70 posts and you're being a curmudgeon. Why don't we turn this thread into a "how to cook Calamari" thread!
We're here to talk trades and moves if you don't care for it start your own thread/site.

No reason the Bruins shouldn't make a trade to improve the team. NHL GMs are generally wayyyy too reluctant to make deals. Since the league (and, more specifically, the Atlantic division) has so much parity, even a small move would have a notable impact on inter-division competition.

A few possibilities to get things rolling:
- Trade for Halak to help Rask down the stretch. His cap hit is $3.55M, so this would only be a $900k investment for the last quarter of the season. Maybe a 4th and low-end prospect get it done (See below for 4th).
- J-M Liles for a 4th (Hainsey for 2nd sets this market). I'm comfortable with the Bruins depth otherwise.
- Try to get Sakic to budge on his inclusion of Carlo/Pastrnak in deals for Landeskog or Duchene. If he does, I would strongly consider adding either one. Let's face it, they are impact players who are entering their primes.
- I think the Bruins should try for Jerome Iginla. He might be a guy who could balance the roster, especially if his insanely-low 7% shooting bounces back here in the last quarter. Plus, he'd be a wayyyy better player to have in the bottom 6 than Jimmy Hayes, just saying...

Actually it's quite the opposite. People don't have faith in the management making a good trade so they don't want them to make any moves.

I get that some fans just want to see a trade because it's exciting but there are only a few trade scenarios that would actually make the team better today and for the future.

Good call - I missed that. There has to be a backup who can deliver more consistent performances that Khudobin. Don't get me wrong, he had a good 2nd half of the game last night, but a little out of control in the 1st half.

Donny, do SOMETHING to show us that you're still alive and breathing FFS!

If that doesnt scream that you want him to make a move essentially for the sake of it, I dont know what does. But by all means, tell me to leave because you think I dont wanna talk trades. The irony in that is hilarious as you act like a keyboard warrior.

THIS^^^ is what I'm talking about...Ii don't want Iggy back unless we can unload someone useless but at least you're using your bean!

I hope that Doby can keep it up though. How long is Vaneks deal with Detroit? I don't know why they'd want to help us out of the Hayes contract without adding a young ELC player with Jimmy.

Got my answer: he's on a one year contract with Detroit.

Bruce Cassidy gave Dobby a sock!

Vanek for Hayes, yes, anything for Hayes yes. A 7th round pick in 2045 for Hayes. It wouldn't be an impact move, but it would at least send a message that if you suck that bad, there is no room at the inn for you. Get him gone and take away the temptation for any coach to want to use him!
