No reason the Bruins shouldn't make a trade to improve the team. NHL GMs are generally wayyyy too reluctant to make deals. Since the league (and, more specifically, the Atlantic division) has so much parity, even a small move would have a notable impact on inter-division competition.
A few possibilities to get things rolling:
- Trade for Halak to help Rask down the stretch. His cap hit is $3.55M, so this would only be a $900k investment for the last quarter of the season. Maybe a 4th and low-end prospect get it done (See below for 4th).
- J-M Liles for a 4th (Hainsey for 2nd sets this market). I'm comfortable with the Bruins depth otherwise.
- Try to get Sakic to budge on his inclusion of Carlo/Pastrnak in deals for Landeskog or Duchene. If he does, I would strongly consider adding either one. Let's face it, they are impact players who are entering their primes.
- I think the Bruins should try for Jerome Iginla. He might be a guy who could balance the roster, especially if his insanely-low 7% shooting bounces back here in the last quarter. Plus, he'd be a wayyyy better player to have in the bottom 6 than Jimmy Hayes, just saying...
