I find it hard to believe that the B's do nothing, they badly want to make the playoffs. I can see a move for a top 9 winger to help out the Spooner/Vatrano line.

I agree. Jacobs said a deep playoff run and as currently constituted, they may not even make the playoffs.

Seems almost like Jacobs and Sweeney are kind of contradicting each other.

Which will it be....

Eaves to ANA for conditonal 2nd

Could become a first. That appears to be a steep price for arguably a very average player.
Quote from Prohockey.

"The Dallas Stars have traded Patrick Eaves to the Anaheim Ducks for a conditional second-round pick. The pick turns into a first rounder should the Ducks reach the conference final with Eaves playing in at least 50% of their playoff games. If that doesn’t happen, the second rounder will be the same pick Toronto sends to Anaheim to complete the Frederik Andersen trade from last summer. That pick is the “middle†one from Toronto’s three seconds."

LOS ANGELES — Don Sweeney’s shopping list ahead of Wednesday’s NHL trade deadline does not have the Boston general manager looking to acquire end-of-season rentals...

http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/b...-approaches/7g3wU1tNQimvw7H76y7FoM/story.html

Dupont says in the first paragraph that Sweeney is NOT looking to acquire end-of-season rentals.

Dupont then says at the end of the article that with Sweeney targeting a scoring winger "it’s an easy leap to figure 35-year-old Czech Radim Vrbata would be a prime target."

I think Eaves is a pretty good player, he's just injury prone. That might be even worse for a team looking to go deep in the playoffs. I'd bet he looks good playing with Getzlaf.

Good deal for ANA.

Eaves scoring may or may not be for real, but his effort and compete level are legit and would help any team.

Overall fair market value all factors considered.

Probably sets the bar in terms of rental wingers like Sharp, Vanek, and Vrbata.

2nds and 3rds with conditions attached.

Are they really comparable players? Would suggest the 3 refernced have been successful scorers in their careers. Eaves has scored 20 goals twice in his career, 11 years apart. PO stats show just 9 goals in 76 games. Seems like the payment for Eaves would be what you might expect to land one of the other 3.

...

This sets the table for yet another ninth place finish.

Hard for me to understand why this should be considered a good thing.

I'd rather make no trades and finish 9th than trade away our 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th picks and finish 9th.
