I disagree. I think a contender would be interested in Spooner if they have a hole on their 3rd/2nd line center position. He's struggling with the Bruins right now, but I think part of that has to do with him not playing center. He only makes $900,000 this season which is a contract a contender would love to add if they are renting a player who has speed, is a good skater, is great offensively, and had 49pts last season.

With that said, I think he can return a 3rd liner + a 1st. It's nothing groundbreaking, but it's a deal I would do as I don't think Spooner has much of a future on the Bruins.

Don't think any contenders are looking for a sometime 4th line LW on one of the worst offensive teams in the league to be their 3rd/2nd line center.

He should be playing #3C given his skill-set and being a natural center. Would contenders not want Bergeron or Krejci, who are both slumping, if they were hypothetically available just because they are on one of the worst offensive teams in the league? Teams know what Spooner is capable of because he proved in his first full season he can score 49pts. I guess we have to agree to disagree because if teams and the Bruins were interested in Stempniak, I would be very surprised if playoff teams weren't interested in a young 40+pt #3C with only a $900,000 cap hit.

Heck, according to Friedman, teams have contacted the Bruins since late October early November about Spooner:
4. Alright, on to the fun stuff. When Boston sat Ryan Spooner for its home opener, GM Don Sweeney got some long-distance text messages. Spooner is a 50-point player making $1 million, an important part of a top power play last season. He’s a restricted free agent and will get a raise, but it’s not something that will blast your budget. So you can see why there’d be interest. That said, those are all good reasons for the Bruins to keep him, too. I’m not sure Spooner’s going anywhere unless a good, young defenceman gets to model black-and-gold.

October 29, 2016: Bruins ‘will listen’ to trade offers on centre Ryan Spooner
“He’s a 50-point player who gets paid a million dollars,” said Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada’s Headlines segment. “I think a lot of teams would like to have him.”

Spooner scored 13 goals and 49 points in 80 games for the Bruins last season.

"I don't think it's so quick that the Bruins want to move him but I think they will listen," said Friedman. "If it's a top, young defenceman that could come the other way, I think there's a possibility."

I would argue that Ryan Strome is not that player.

Part of Dougie Hamilton's Niagara Ice Dogs clan that I would want no part of as GM, Coach or fan of this team.

That's fair -- I don't know enough about Strome's background know how he is as a dressing room guy. Just thought he looked like a talented guy who could use a change in scenery.

I trust your knowledge on that, Dom, so maybe he's not the guy.

Hope there may be another potential match for Spooner like this.

Just watched HNIC 2nd intermission. The group pretty much agreed that Ryan Spooner is available and that Vancouver would be a good fit.

Who do we want from Vancouver?

Jannik Hansen...just so he has nowhere to run from McQuaid.

There is a lot of crap on the pro roster for Vancouver. If we were target one of their decent players like Tanev, we'd have to move one of our bottom 4 RH dmen in KMiller, CMiller and/or McQuaid. I know Vancouver fans like to pump his tires, but I'm not convinced that Tanev is a big enough upgrade over what our options are for the second and third pairings to part with Spooner for. Plus, Tanev is injured right now with an ankle injury and hasn't played in a month.

I have no idea. There really isn't much on their roster that excites me. Maybe Virtanen? I have no idea. I doubt Boeser or Horvat are available.
Sutter, he plays the style of game that Clode loves.
Absolutely not. If Sweeney trades for him he should be fired. Sutter's extension kicks in next season at $4.375M for the next 5 seasons with a full NTC for the first 4 years.

I'll keep Spooner thanks. He'll pick it up soon. His creativity is important. Plus there is nobody on Vancouver that I'd want.

Jimmy can go tho.

disagree Vancouver has any need for spooner... henrick is still there occupying one top line spot and spooner cant hold his jock strap

sutter is going to be making 4.5 mill... they don't want him being bumped

and then bo hovart is developing quickly...

spooner would be looking at playing wing... which we see doesn't work.

I see only 1 single team in the nhl that doesn't have 2 better centers than spooner... that being Arizona. and even Arizona has a couple kids that likely will pass spooner on the depth chart within 2 seasons

spooner is reminding me more and more and more of the sam gagner situation in Edmonton. gagner for a short time was a golden child in Edmonton... he even had a 7 point game. Edmonton fans kept toying with the idea they might trade gagner for something good... but the team held on until his value dropped to nothing.

small undersized forwards who cant play defense and top out at 50 points when they get pp time really don't have any value to anyone. spooner probably can bounce around the nhl and stay employed for the next 5 seasons but no one is going to think he can play on their top 2 lines without being owned.

The only spooner trade that makes a modicum of sense is a center for wing swap.

This team sorely lacks actual wingers outside of marchy/pasta who can put the puck in the net, and is currently forced to square peg-round hole centers into those positions.

I will agree that the consensus is a needed upgrade at RW and as usual, D. Too many LWs chomping at the bit.

Of course us Bruins fans would like it... No way Van does this straight up.

Wouldn't be so sure. Virtanen is struggling mightily, the Canucks are struggling mightily to score goals, and Hanson's injury has opened up a top 9 center spot. If Spooner was a Benning guy there might be something to it.
