Living in denial doesn't make someone a bigger or truer fan.
Let's just squash that crap now.
Your posts are literally taking every opportunity, including intentional misrepresentation, to constantly shit on a player who, had he been drafted in a different spot, would have this fan base ecstatic. You give every impression that you would rather see the kid fail than be wrong, so yeah, mosey on over to the Devils forum, because constantly shitting on Rangers will make you quite popular over there.
This is probably the shittiest post I've seen in the Laf thread to date.
Says the guy who was all "Laf sucks because stats" until it was pointed out that the stats didn't really say that, and suddenly became the guy who was all "ignore stats! I meant eye test!"
Well, I mean, I started a thread on the trade forum asking the populace what’s the top value for Laf at this point and consensus seemed to be mid-late first pick plus a third-ish. So I don’t think there’s an “addition by subtraction” faction or a contingent that wants to trade anyone for a 7th, but there is a group that feels there is merit in getting something like 20th OA while we can over gambling on Laf beating the odds.
The main boards all think he's a bust because 90% of the main boards have an irrational hatred of the Rangers. When your franchise literally only gets ONE first overall (and two top 5) picks in a 60 year span, you gamble on Laf beating the odds. Particularly when the return (a player drafted at ~20th overall) is more likely to COMPLETELY bust than to even turn into what a 21 year old Laf is right now (a 40 point, 20 goal middle sixer).
I am baffled at how the narrative on these boards, for literal years, was all about how we needed to tank to get top 5 picks, and now that we finally have one, people are all "it's developing too slowly. Discard it and do better then next time you get a top 5 pick in 2078."
He's 21 years old.
He's had 3 head coaches going into his 4th season.
He's been buried behind two of the top players on the team since he got here.
He's being shifted to a new position which will take some time.
I get it. There's reason for frustration. But if people don't also see that there is at least SOME reason for optimism as well, then I'm sorry--those people just enjoy wallowing in their misery.
We have a player who is already pretty decent for his age, if not his draft position, and with some time to settle in to the new position and getting used to taking a few more chances, we may be able to get his development back on track. He's cheap on the cap, a good team/locker room guy. I don't get the rage about the kid.
