I thought he had a good game, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. He is far from showing the talent of a #1 pick.
If it were his first month of playing post draft I'd say he's showing number 1 overall talent. But it's almost 2 years so I agree with you. He's got lots of ground to cover to get to first overall skill level, but I'll take baby steps at this point. He's way more active and making plays compared to any other point so far, even the end of last year when he looked decent.

Shootouts though, his first one was a lucky goal that happened to slip under the pad and gave him false confidence it seems. Against Boston he was caught in between going backhand 5 hole or backhand top shelf and shot it into the pad, wasting his attempt. Last night he thought he could do one quick short move and beat the goalie's pad 1.5 feet away. This is the NHL c'mon!

Just stopped by to watch people shit on him after a very strong game.
Not disappointed. Haha.

Sorry - are you implying we drafted this kid 1st overall to only score on (what my math is telling me) only 1/4 of his shootout attempts?
Jack Hughes is 2 for 12 in the shoot-out. Aho is 3 for 16 in his career, a top center in the NHL. There are many strong offensive players who don't have a good shoot-out record.

Please. We are talking about Laf, don’t go using logic. He’s a bust. Period. Hahaha.
We drafted Laf for one reason and ONE reason only: shootouts!

I think fans want to see hands like Zegras's. But Laf and Zegras are fundamentally different players, with different styles and different skillsets--the same way Crosby and Kane are different.

Probably one of his better performances all season, it's a shame he didn't get on the scoresheet because he truly deserved too. I'd still like to see him try to attack the middle of the ice and attack defenders 1-on-1, if he starts doing that then he will be in business.

Honestly, if last game was his first NHL game at 18 years old, I still wouldn't call it 1st overall performance. He's got a good head on his shoulders (mostly), but I really don't see the "talent." His speed and skating are below average, his hands are average, and his shot is average. Name one thing that he has shown that is above average?

His speed is average. I dont see how anyone can watch him skate and think he's slow. Is he blinding fast like mackinnon or mcdavid obviously not, but hes not slow at all, he's also got a good sense of balance which is more important in offensive cycles.

His shot is a good shot, he's got a strong backhand and a strong forehand. He's got a quick release and a strong shot, he didnt lose either of those things from juniors, but he hasn't been blasting the puck regularly and once he starts to it'll open up more room.
He has good hands and you can watch game by game as he starts to move the defensemen, and works the play in deep. He absolutely turns the puck over at times because he's still working out what he can get away with.

Yesterday his speed seemed average NHLer which is a big jump for him, his vision was actually good at spotting the right players at the right time and hanging on to the puck long enough to make a play, and his board work was above average as well. But that's just one game so not very impressive.

"In a move that sparked the team, the left winger switched to playing as a center for the playoffs. He scored on a dazzling end-to-end rush completing a comeback by Edmonton. The Oilers won their first Cup and Messier was named playoff MVP for his determined leadership and 26-point performance (8 goals, 18 assists)."

Prophetic.

If we want to win, it must be done.

Thank goodness Playoff overtime hockey isn't 3 on 3 he would never see the ice. Still can't believe he didn't see the ice over Fil and Rooney.

Jagr used to beg out of them. How many goals did he score?

I'm with you. Trade Strome for whatever and move Laf to center. See what happens.

yeah, and kucherov and boogaard, who laf is a fingernail ahead of at this point
He's just so frustrating, every game you look at him and think that he could have popped two goals and instead you look at the score sheet and there's nothing there, again. And stupid shit like in the last game when he had the puck in the corner and he looked up at the point and then still passed it there even though both defensemen were at the bench changing.
