and yet travigno is older, more professional experience, and likely not signing this contract unless he's getting a quick nhl start.

Trivigno has no professional experience. They can sweeten the pot by giving him more PBs and sign him right away making him RFA a year sooner, even without playing him.

Laf has taken faceoffs fairly regularly, that has nothing to do with him playing center. Kreider has one of the highest faceoff win percentages on our team.
Playing center is about defensive positioning.
i know hes taken them here and there, stood out a bit more with goodrow out there. but wasnt saying he was or thats the plan, thats just something i hope gets looked at down the line. and he can do it, personally think the nature of the position in a lot of ways fits his skillset really well. if it doesnt ever happen it doesnt happen

I’ll do a full @Machinehead style hair eating video of Trivigno is ever a top 6 caliber player capable of bumping down Hunt
I thought the scouting report on him was good skater, good shot, small size, wins puck battles regardless.

That to me says middle six guy like zuc was.

There are many problems with the handling of Laf but the one that's now bothering me the most is that the decisions being made regarding his ice time and place in the lineup don't seem to be rooted in his actual effort or performance. It seems more like the coaching staff's main concern is preserving the status quo for the top six than actually rewarding good play for Laf or putting him in the positions he is most likely to succeed in.

Laf looks small out there. And his game is “elite grinding.” A couple inches and 20 pounds would help him immensely.

He's not going to just grow a couple inches lol.

People think Yakupov busted because he was a flake, or a wacky zany Russian or whatever - I thought he had basically average physical tools, but he became a stud in junior by playing a really physical game and it didn't translate against men. Which is exactly what worries me about our two guys.

But tonight I thought Laf and his line were pretty good, even the goat was okay but we predictably didn't see much of him in the third.

Laf played really well. Goat was absolutely terrible. Chytil was the best player on the line.
The problem is he likely wanted to sit reaves who looked bad. But the other 2 fourth liners played well.

This is where a healthy kakko changes things.

Put Laf on the RW no matter what line. He needs to get on his forehand more often. He often gets physically stopped on the boards. Get him facing the center of the ice on his forehand. That will help his shooting, passing and puck handling.

Gee f***ing whiz, his production has slowed back down after WE TOOK HIM OFF THE FIRST LINE THIS SPORT IS SO f***ING EASY!!

Ultimately, scoring pts in the NHL 5 on 5 comes with so small marginals, that anyone not getting PP minutes will be very very streaky. Heck, you are bound to be really streaky at times even with PP time. Alexander Ovechkin had ZERO goals on the PP for 42 straight games in 2010-11. 42 games during which had around 100 great shot attempts on the PP, every chance in the world to pick up a rebound bouncing out to him on the left side, or score in any other way that you do on the PP.

There are players that score regularly 5 on 5 despite not getting PP time, but they are definitely the exception and not the rule.

I just don't think we should expect anyone that doesn't play on the PP to score regularly. I mean, over the course of say 5 years, perhaps its not unrealistic to like expect 0.6 pts or whatever for someone playing on a good 1st or 2nd line but without PP time, but during those 5 years, you should definitely also expect long droughts.

If only that was the easy solution. If you have to play on a first line to score then you are not a first liner. People bash Strome. People know the second lines RW does little yet Panarin still produces. Laf not scoring is more about youth and experience not what line he is on. He will get better. He has been getting better already but if he can only get better if he plays with Zibs and Kreider than we are in trouble. Crosby double shifts with 4th line guys at times and still produces with them. Xooks led the team in scoring on a 3rd line with Brass and Pouliet. Lafs biggest issue right now in my mind is he gets stopped on those left hand boards. He really will benefit playing the right side. Get him looking towards the middle of the ice on his forehand. Guys like Panarin play that off wing for a reason.
