If you wait till the trade deadline teams do not have to take on much salary (for that season) and buyers often pay a premium at the trade deadline in comparison to shopping in July.

Why would we be trading a player at the deadline that was signed here specifically to help the team in the playoffs? That makes no sense. playoff teams don't trade goodrow types away at the deadline, unless you think this team is missing the playoffs?

There is no absolute. I have seen teams that were playoff teams make trades at the deadline to deal players. We signed Goody for many reasons and he played that role to a point for 2 years but its okay to say we now feel it is the right time to move him while also believing we can do well in the playoffs. It is Goody not Igor.

GMs sometimes change their mind. Didn't Drury let Motte go then trade for him again only to let him go again? Didn't he trade for Blais from the Blues and then trade him back to the Blues? I understand your point but things do change in life.

Motte was let go bc he wanted more money, blais was let go bc he literally contributed nothing here and they were getting a piece to help them in the playoffs. Goodrow has been excellent at the role he was brought here to play but has been asked at times to be a 2md liner. That isn't his fault. People were sure he was getting bought out yet here we are, if he moves it's a summer move and not a deadline move unless domain sees another Kane he wants and orders drury to make it work $$ wise

I did not think Goody was being bought out. I think we will be open to moving him if we can bring back a lesser lower/shorter contract. If that can be done this summer we will look at it. If not he will not be untouchable at the trade deadline in my opinion. Sometimes teams have to sign guys to longer contracts than desired but only plan to have them for half that contract. Goody wanted a NTC but he only has a 15 NTC so that does give Drury some flexibility.
 
Doesn't want to trade him, but wants to continue blocking him with declined slow old veterans. Wheeler is the next in line.

I didn't say that. Gallant isn't here anymore. I fully expect Kakko to be on line 1 with Kreider and ZIbanejad. If Wheeler displaces anyone, it'll be Lafreniere who will have to prove he's capable of being a Right Wing. If not, he'll go to being a 3rd line LW which, on this team, is exactly where he belongs.

Displacing our 1 overall pick for 36 year old Wheeler who can't skate. because Lafreniere needs to "prove it" is the definition of stupidity. And if that happens this garbage organization deserves the mediocrity it sewed.

After this season Goodrow cap hit will be much lower compared to what other players like him are going to be making as the cap goes up. If we were going to trade him for space the time to do it was this summer or last summer. Now w the cap going up there is no point moving him.

Also if people believe Drury what he said today about laffy you are silly. You think he's going to talk to the media and say " yes, we have had discussions about moving alexi." What a shit storm that would start and even breathing anything to that to the media would essentially end laffy's time here or turn the remaining time into a circus. He had to shoot it down completely to the media...

That's not what I'm saying at all. Please read what I wrote instead of responding to things that I haven't said.

Lafreniere is a LW. If he can't successfully play on the right side, then he's the 3rd best LW on this team.

If Laffy can play the right side, I firmly believe he will have every chance to earn that spot. If he doesn't, then he's 3rd on the depth chart on the left side.

This one was brought in and straight up said they need more top time with PP time.
