Hey I’m no fan of Laf either lol I just think it’s a massive cope to act like Kakko was some transformed player this season. He still got 40pts in his 4th NHL season. He was expected to get significantly more than that in his rookie year.

I don’t think he’s a transformed player by any means, he’s just shown more than Laf.

I agree with most of these statements being made; that Laf has no upside that makes you believe that there is something that will blossom in the near future. 3 years and a bust, I'm still trying to figure out what all the experts were looking at because when he first arrived on the scene it was quite obvious that there was something lacking (skill wise) from a first overall pick and the label that accompanied that pick. But then again, it's the NYRs and their picks that remain highly susceptible.

You cant trade him if so blow it up and start over fire GM, coaches, including some scouts who take the decisions in the drafts over the last decade. A talent dont get 1st overall by some many world wide scouts for a reason so he has talents, but coaches seems inept in NY that is fact.
I dont compare him to Crosby, Matthews, Mc David or Hughes family and that is not even fair with other 1st overall in NHL.

3 years in and I've seen enough.

Complete and utter bust. Worst first overall since the 05 lockout - at least Yakupov had good production in his rookie year.

I still believe in Laf..get him and kk a skating coach for the off-season and go from there.I'm not ready to start trading cheap young talent only to see them blossom elsewhere

I agree with this. But to be fair, Byfield has been more of a bust and I doubt they would have traded down for Stutzle even though he was the clear #1 in hindsight.

Byfield is a year younger, has to play different as a Center, has monster size, has only played 99 regular season games, also develops on the 3rd line, and still managed to contribute 4 points in 6 games in his series. He's the bust?

Lafreniere is 100% a bust. The kid has no skill. A career 3rd/4th liner.

f***ing incredible.

Very disappointing playoffs for Laffy.

He was basically a no-show in all areas.

Even if he was physically engaged and took a few penalties, roughing, boarding - then you could at least say he was showing some life.

The 2 on 1 was the only big chance he got in the series basically and he shot it right into Schmids glove.

I was expecting more youthful exuberance out of him, after all he is just 21. He played like a veteran trying to not lose, to not make a mistake. He didn't make his mark in anyway and you didnt notice him. Last postseason you noticed him. He was buzzing, forcing plays, getting points.

He went backwards. Cant put all the blame on him, it goes around the entire team but this team needed the youth (all of them), but especially Laffy our only 1OA to step up and at least be a pain in the neck if he wasnt scoring. None of that.

Super disappointing, but not surprising either.

I think about what this team would be if Laffy played like any of the 1OA the last several years. Pick a name out of a hat, not named Yakupov. This is all we get for what will be our only 1OA, probably ever? Thanks hockey Gods

Unfortunately, I don't think either Kakko or Laf can be taught to skate much better. They were poor skaters when drafted and will likely be poor skaters for their careers.

Rangers seem to ignore skatability when drafting while the better franchises emphasize drafting good skaters.

What did all the scouts see while he was in juniors? He has no skating ability, is slow, falls down all the time and can’t win a puck battle ever.
He has to be one of the worst players of all time of his supposed caliber at winning puck battles. He's so laughably weak on his skates, he never seems to be able to outmuscle opponents ever. Or even use craft and deft to pull pucks away from people.

It's been said here before, skating is not an issue with him. It's not necessarily a strength but he can get up and down the ice fine.

he just doesn't have what it takes to be a good or impactful NHL player.

he can't be salvaged imo.

I'd trade him while GMs are still willing to take a gamble on his potential.

0 points in last 11 games including the 7 game 1st round playoff.

He is a slow and weak skater. He doesn't win board battles. I don't see the high hockey IQ he was originally touted with. The experiment is over, move on from him.

He will never be better until he can improve his skating. League gets faster every year and he is slow.

He had a shit playoffs. Was one of the more physically engaged forwards, and one of the few to actually backcheck, but he needed to get on the board and didn't.
Mind you, there is a long list of players that hurt us way more than him, he was at least even in plus minus, and didn't make any plays that led to opposition goals that I can recall, but that was unacceptable.
That being said, it would be dumb to trade him now. If you are dead set on it, put him in a position to succeed and do it when he gets on a streak, but still will end up a bad move in the end. We won't get value. You know people are irrationally emotional when someone says Laf can't even be a less talented Avery... Avery had a career high of 39 points. Hahaha. Perspective, folks.

Eliminate a cheap player who scores at a second-line rate at 5v5
He was at 201st in the league in P/60 at 5v5, which is 3rd liner territory. Doesn't drive play, doesn't score at a high level. His physical attributes are poor or at most mediocre. The only thing he has going for him is he's young and somewhat cheap but you can find guys doing what he does for less. Plus they could probably still get a good asset for him.
