I think the point was, like most top draft picks touted with the skill to go his number, he was put on top lines right out of the gate.

Unfortunately for us, he popped more bubblelicious bubbles than produced at the top. Not sure why'd you keep him there with that poor output then there are other wingers deserving of that time.
And unlike other top picks when he wasn’t immediately producing he was demoted. How many of Hughes’ 21 D+1 points were scored in his first month to keep him getting top line and powerpaly minutes? He scored fewer ppg than Laf in his rookie year, so I’m not sure how he was more deserving of it than Laf… except for the different makeup and objectives of the teams… as I’ve said repeatedly now.

Ive defended Laf all year but this hasn't been a good series for him. There were a few plays he was close. A few pucks bouncing off or over his stick. Just want to see him concentrating more. With that said the 3rd and 4th lines have been disappointing. I don't like our 4th line. I'd like our 4th line to be a punishing line and or a shut down line. I don't think they are either.

Does he have ADHD or something? In that dual media availability, he was constantly looking around everywhere, fidgeting, not focused on anything. Completely spaces out if the question wasn't for him. Like, way more than anyone else on the Rangers that I've seen.

Video?

He need to continue working on his skating and speed. Maybe add 10lbs. And finish some checks..
next year let him play on the second line.

His off-season training needs to be monitored. Don't let him go home and get fat. Either way it's apparent no matter what he does he will never live up to his franchise player 1OA hype. If everything goes his way and he somehow becomes an average to above average skater maybe we can hope for top 6 70-80 point solid contributor.

Watching a lot of playoff Hockey, you just instantly recognize star players as stars immediately. Within seconds of touching the puck a non hockey fan could see who has that star quality. Laffy has shown none of that. How many more seasons before he is officially declared a bust? 5? I think if he's still in the 40-50 point range in year 5 with PP time, the bust label would be fair.

They're punishing us!

His series has been poor. In fact, the entire kid line has played sub par. I am most worried about Chytil if I am being honest.
But yeah, Laf is not playing to the level he needs to be at. Would love a goal tonight to help boost his confidence. Hell the Kid line needs to get points. It is crucial to us advancing in these playoffs.

I think we may need to contend with the fact that his 39 points this season were by and large as a passenger carried by Chytil and to a lesser degree Kakko.

Meh. The truth is if we ended up with the 2OA and 3OA instead of 1 & 2, every team in the NHL would’ve drafted Kakko and Lafreniere if they had our picks. We just have to hold out hope that they are late bloomers and that this isn’t their ceiling(s).

Definitely should keep working on skating/speed and strength.
In all fairness tho, Laf finishes more checks than most of the team.
Laf in his just over 15 mins a game had 141 hits this season, second among forwards to Trocheck (182, 19 mins a game). Trouba in his 21+ mins a game lead with 218.
I don’t see hitting stats for the playoffs but he’s been finishing MOST of his checks.

None of us wanted to believe it, but it's been obvious since Day 1 that he does not have #1 overall pick skills. All of the excuses about development difficulties (within the organization/Covid year) have some validity, but it's also true that he just doesn't have it. Less than five plays in three years that wowed me on a skill level, which is insane. He's got grinder skills without a grinder mindset. It's not good.

He looks uncomfortable but I doubt he is used to media and maybe nervous since his focus on the mic part of the video and look elsewhere, but he focus on the journalist when he was asked a question so I doubt he has ADHD fortunately for him.

ADHD is brief:
Part of my family have issue with it so I got some experience and maybe some symptoms myself.

Symptoms
  • Impulsiveness.
  • Disorganization and problems prioritizing.
  • Poor time management skills.
  • Problems focusing on a task.
  • Trouble multitasking.
  • Excessive activity or restlessness.
  • Poor planning.
  • Low frustration tolerance.
- The most difficult if a person struggle with depression or anxiety it is usually close symptoms with ADHD unfortunately based on family experience.

I really like Alexis Lafrenière so hopefully he is succesful even though it is a lot of pressure to perform.
