They will settle in as more than that for sure. The question is how much more.

I talk about bad organizations having negative effects on a player all the time.

Like I said, these are professional hockey players. The organization isn't going to micromanage a player's development. There have been articles of KK's training in the off-season at home and you can see it without a shadow of a doubt how it has improved his play. Dude is an absolute beast this season on the boards and corners. He looks strong. You think the organization is telling KK when to train, how to train, where to train, and who to train with? The organization will let a player know what they think that player needs to work on. The only thing I believe an organization has responsibility for is the system that the team uses and if that system compliments the players on the team. TOI, PP, and moving up is all about that player performing (as well as the coach experimenting).

His play makes me not want to bother typing the "è" in his name anymore.
He's been one of the better forwards IMO, had two of the best scoring chances last night, and has been one of the more committed players to physical play.
He and the rest of the Kid line though need to pitch in in the scoring. They've been our most effctive forechecking line, and that's not enough if we want to win this year. We shouldn't expect him or them to carry a team with this veteran "leadership," but they have to get on the scoreboard. If they don't we may be out in six.

Think his game was better last postseason thus far.

Doesn't mean he cant turn it around, but I'm not seeing improvement.

Last year he was really skating and arriving at pucks in straight lines. He's been a little slower (the whole team has for some reason) and more methodical with his approach this postseason.

The problem I have with his game is he is stagnant. Yes hes getting his chances and creating some disruption along the walls and on the forecheck but im not seeing an extra gear or a rise in level of play from him as of yet. Especially with the puck.

In short, he's playing like a veteran who knows his limitations, but he's a 21 year old 1OA who should be climbing the ladder of development and showing some youthful exuberance. He's got 24 playoff games under his belt and 2 goals. We need more and he should want more. It's not looking that way out there.

If this is how he looks the remainder of the playoffs, you have to think we start exploring trading him before the allure of him being a 1st overall pick becomes akin to your drunk uncle telling you stories about how he could’ve went pro had he not developed a drinking problem.
Bundle him with Bread (with retention) to a contender for a first rounder or two a few years from now. I doubt Laf fetches a meaningful first rounder at this point. Youth premium has eroded significantly.

It's interesting how they're trying to get him to be Kreider 2.0 in front of the net. At this point it's his best bet, can't skate well enough, can't create, doesn't shoot.

skating and leg strength are still major issue with him 3 years in. it is also possible that he doesnt play 18-20 mins a game bc quite frankly he physically cant in this league at this level. i believe it was reported that he does not work with any of the major trainers during the offseason and he instead goes back home and works with his own people? if that is true it is time to make some significant changes and also work with a skating coach to see if he can add a step to his stride bc his skating is absolutely still an issue at this level.

That's the definition of depth, no? Can't rely on the vets and PP1 to get it done all the time. Frankly, this is a team sport and if you're going to win big, everyone needs to pitch in. I personally am not surprised though. Out of all our lines, the kid line has been the most hot and cold during the season when they were put back together again. Nowhere to move them now, unless you move a vet back and move at least one kid up. Or you could move the whole kid line up to top 6, but if they don't have it together currently, then what's the point of matching them against tougher competition. Ah well.

he posted a nice picture of his apartment and the city skyline during sunset the other night on his Insta story.
The first thought that popped into my head was, are you more infatuated with the city apartment view or the f***ing playoff game in front of you? I really worry about this shit, because if this was MTL and things were going as they have here, he'd be raked by everyone and he probably couldn't even leave his cozy apartment.

No quit in NY huh? Might be time for a new slogan with how comfortable some of these players are with the bullshit this past year. I hope I'm just overreacting like a schizo, I really do

His play is so confusing. Top end two way stuff mirrored by long periods of invisibility.

As tough as it may be to state, he seems like one of this perfect “they shouldn’t have traded him candidate.” It really might be a bad fit with the talent around him…then he goes somewhere else and is awesome.

Last night his play was unacceptable at this level, at this point.

Saw that on IG and thought the same thing. During playoffs you have to be all in. 100%. No distractions. He's still a young kid with a lot to learn.

it's just I want more intensity, aggressiveness, real cut-throat shit. If I was Laf I wouldn't even bother posting something.
All this little shit during the post-season speaks volumes about these guys and what they are as professional players
Nah it’s a ridiculous take. You think Messier just played hockey and then went home and stared at the ceiling?

As a former high major DOBO who worked for some of the most intense individuals between the lines you could ever imagine, you lost me.

it's tough to compare anything any player did in the 90's to what is the reality in the 2020's if you really think about it. My worry is Lafreniere just sees NY as some vacation spot for him to build a brand before he heads off to MTL or some shit. It's my nightmare vision

Imagine following Laf's NHL career and thinking he's brand focused.
