"Even Strength" is useless because it includes 4v4, 3v3, 5v5, and 6v5 when there is something like a delayed penalty or w/e.

Only 5v5 is a useful indicator of all of those. The rest are noise.
They're also incredibly insignificant in terms of total volume for any regular player.
I'd imagine laf has less than .01% of his total ice time spent at 4v4,3v3 compared to 5v5 at "even strength"

You imagine wrong.

It's also not at all insignificant. His ES pts/60 is 1.96. His 5v5 pts/60 is 1.67. He has 825 more minutes at 5v5 than even strength yet somehow that extra 30 minutes bumps his pts/60 up by 0.3.

This season or in his career? Im seeing that he's at 942:54 at ES this season. I cant seem to find 5v5

If nothing else this is an interesting observation about different data sources
Natural Stat Trick shows Laf as:

ES: 856.22
5v5: 825.46

So there's roughly 30 mins of non-5v5 ES time, of which 6.36 is 3v3.
So while 0.1% was always going to be off, 4v4, 3v3 and 'other' EV situations accounts for a period of less than 5%

So .03% I was damn close.

NST doesn't count EN scenarios as 5v5. Not sure what else is causing differences. Not that Laf plays much with the net empty.

No. 3.0%.

Laf is playing like a 1OA - one of the least of the roster I’m concerned about.

I wouldn’t say he’s playing like a 1OA but he’s definitely playing better right now.

Still wish he had more flashy offensive skill.

He tried a couple moves last night.
He’s definitely getting some confidence to try stuff now.

Really been turning it up, still not there but it’s an improvement to how he has been , I notice him more on the ice making plays, and he is being awarded for it in goals.

Not sure why a thread was made on the main forum, but he is moving in the right direction. I think the kids line has actually been hurting him. Chytil and Kakko have actually been meh as of late. I mean one of these days we will get all three of them playing well at the same time. Probably got a taste of that last playoffs.

I’ll take 8 “non flashy” goals in 15 games over 6 “flashy” ones. He HAS offensive skill. I personally care about results, not how the player LOOKS getting them.

It's pretty simple: when Lafreniere has his motor going and is moving his feet he's a very good player. When he's puck watching and gliding/reaching all game he's ineffective.

He's an average skater so it's imperative that he moves his feet all game. The sooner he's able to truly unlock in on that consistency, the sooner he will become a top of the lineup guy.

yeah but the issue is he does this more often than he doesn't. it starts to feel like a feature and not a bug.

Lafreniere has been doing what we'd at least ask him to do. He's scoring goals that aren't luck. Going to dirty areas, getting deflections. Kakko needs to be doing this.

I'm ready to break up the kid line. It's a little stale.

Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko (their best line all season)
Panarin-Trocheck-Tarasenko (this was the plan all along)
Lafreniere-Chytil-Kane

Kane needs shooters. He did amazing with Panarin in the past, but he needs someone to carry the puck and be aggressive with it (Chytil). He crushed it with Debrincat cause he's a sniper The other thing is that these two will shoot.

If you want to move the RWs around, you could go Kane L1, Kakko L2, and Tarasenko L3.

I'm.. actually not opposed to those line combos at all.

As for Laf, he's doing well in everything I didn't except him to be. He's absolutely gotten some lucky goals, mostly dirty goals, and PP deflection goals.

If this is his shtick going forward then it is what it is. I was expecting an offensive skating playmaker that's a leader on the offense and not really last year's PP Chris Krieder lite. Like I said, it is what it is. I'd rather points vs no points and high confidence vs no confidence.
