What the Rangers need is for Othmann to come up, buck the trend and set the world on fire like we see with the Tage Thompsons, Tkachuks, Raymond and half the Devils forwards

Oh wait, yeah he's a LW? Forget it
it took Tate Thompson until he was like 24 to look legit in this league. bad comparison. We need Othman to be more like Dawson mercer. undersized speedy and gritty who plays bigger than he is and is always going to the net

Caufield? A kid who can skate and score goals? Not on my Rangers team!

Seriously though, the fact that I can't say for certain that that would be a bad trade for the Rangers is depressing.

This organization is crazy to give up on 2 21yr old 1/2nd OA picks. it's not going to happen.

They were never trading KK for Kane. Thats BS from Brooks.

A trade could be good or bad, it could even be a catastrophe, and I think continuing to run with the Kane thing after the team started to stink was kind of lazy clickbait on their part. But at a certain point a trade is at least more coherent than the way things are going.

Ahahaha. A year older than Laf, has 17 whole even strength points this year, as a small, non physical, no defense to speak of winger, to Laf’s 10 EV and people think it’s not a TERRIBLE idea to trade Laf AND Kakko for him? Hahaha.
Fireable offense for whoever would make that trade for Caufield. And I like him for what he is, would have definitely traded Nils for him last year, but this is the worst case of shiny new toy syndrome I’ve seen on here in a while. It’s beyond short sighted.

Any trade of Kakko or laf is extremely short sighted

I assure you, no habs fan or habs organization, for that matter would trade Caufield for Lafreniere and Kakko.

never, I'd start following tennis if that happened.
Not saying I would but you realize Caufield is probably gonna be a 35-40 goal scorer in this league. I know I know he gets a ton of pp time and plays with Suzuki but still.

It’s one game and Binnington is playing at Halak level, but anyone wondering where Kakko and Laf would be if they were up with Mika since the start of the year?

dont think it would matter much, Mika was horrific tonight

He took a dumbass penalty that nearly cost us the game. The natural thing to do would’ve been to bench him for the rest of the game instead to send a message.

Instead Gallant put him on the 1st line and essentially told him and Kakko to go win the f’n game. I’m really impressed with both. That was a tough spot and they delivered.

Told you all the kids needed was opportunity. It was like he was shot out of a cannon in the 3rd. Confidence is key in young players, wish this organization could figure that out. I go right back to DelZotto who has a great rookie year then gets bashed the following year and never fully recovers from that, it's very frustrating to watch this organization put blinders on to the fact the kids need ice time, they need to feel they are part of the solution and they need to be able to make mistakes and recover from them, ie Lafreniere's penalty.

Thats what has the Rangers in the place they are right now.

They're not at their window yet as much as some of the Rangers brass and coaching staff (and some fans) think they are.

What happened is the brass and coaches got their marching orders from the Owner and his Sultan Sather (Quinn got the same his last season here), make the playoffs and compete. So that's what they are trying to do even if it is monumentally stupid from a hockey point of view.

Money > development. That's the Dolan formula.

I thought the last game against the Blues was interesting. You could see the natural shift in the line up starting to take place with the pieces slotting into place, despite the coaches best efforts up until now (see the Marching orders). Now it's desperation time so here we are.

The kids need to get into the flow of things, and that comes with playtime and confidence and support. A few games ago Laffy was on PP2 and fired a wrister 2 inches outside the post. Hughes recently had the same look and fired 2 inches inside and scored. That's the difference that comes from playtime and repetition and support from the bench instead of being looked at as the second sorting. Caufield's the same. Ducharme tried to make him play Ducharme dino ass hockey and look at him now playing Caufield hockey.

I think confidence and feeling like you’re getting an opportunity is big. They may have gotten the same EV minutes as the kid line or others but when you’re demoted from playing with the other top players on the team then I think it hurts the confidence
You know you’re not playing with the top guns regardless of minutes, you know it’s a demotion. Probably why that line did it work quite as well

You're hired as an investment banker. You graduated top of your class from the best program in the country. For three years, all your boss lets you do is proofread powerpoint presentations. No meaningful analysis. No client meetings. And every time a deal falls through, you get yelled at. Would you continue to show up to work motivated and inspired to get better? Or would you check out, do the bare minimum, and start looking for other opportunities?

Development is a two way street. Some of it falls on the employee, and some of it falls on the organization.

This is ALSO shortsighted IMO, but good on you! The two players are separated by 5 whole even strength points. One, Caufield, a one dimensional offensive player, generally considered to be rounding into his form though I think he will still improve of course, the other Lafreniere, a year younger, generally considered to still have a ton of untapped potential, who can play an all round physical game. Anyone who thinks Caufield for Laf AND Kakko is a bad trade for Montreal or a good one for NYR is IMHO batshit crazy. Hahahaha. But hey, you do you, I'll do me.
