Both also joined teams that either made the playoffs or are competing for the playoffs the same year they were drafted, which by default will reduce their role and ice time significantly. How many other former #1 or even #2 picks joined a team that what was immediately in playoff contention? It just doesn't happen very often, if almost never

1/2 of the games we have played have felt 100% like playoff games. I'm very proud of these kids.

Really hope that someday he can get 15 min per game and maybe produce more than Vladislav Namestnikov or Jesper Fast. Who knows, we might eventually have a Casey Cizikas on our hands, minus the murdering.
Sorry for the rant but
I’m sure easing him into the NHL was bad for him when he was 2 steps behind the play. More minutes definitely would not have hurt his confidence when he couldn’t touch the puck without turning it over. If only Quinn threw him out there for 17 min a game and maybe he could have directly blown some games for us to learn that awesome feeling. Lastly, understanding the importance to be defensive responsible set him back and destroyed his offensive potential. Did I cover it all here?

I went and calculated how many % of each 1OA production was EV, and used the average of that to add to Laf's to estimate how he'd compare

Thornton: 86%
Lecavalier: 75%
Kovalchuk: 71%
Nash: 59%
Ovechkin: 48%
Crosby: 52%
Kane: 61%
Stamkos: 63%
Tavares: 54%
Hall: 74%
Nugent-Hopkins: 56%
MacKinnon: 73%
McDavid: 71%
Matthews: 70%
Hischier: 88%
Hughes: 57%
Lafreniere: 100%

The average is 66% even strength production, adding 34% to Laf's production would make him end up with:

35 points in 82 games

And that's an optimistic estimate because of how far back I went, because as of late 1OA have had higher % of even strength production than in years past

The math doesn't work out because if you add 34%, the extra production would be out of the new total not the original total. So if you do that with someone that has 100 points and you add 34%, then they have 34 extra points, which totals to 134 and 34/134 is less than 34%.

Using last game's numbers prorated it'll be about 25 points points and you multiply that by 1.34 you get 34 points (not 35 points). The correct way to do it is:

25+x=y
x=0.34y

It becomes 25=0.66y

and y becomes about 38 points.

So not a huge difference but still close to 40 points, which is 0.5 per game.

He’s looked better lately. Would love the kids to get some big mins in the jersey games bc there shout be more open space. They’ve shown enough good intentions vs NYI

He's looked really good lately. Making some really impressive plays in tight spots in the o zone. It's truly to bad we won't get to see his skills at work along the right boards on the first pp. Instead we get to see Strome on the first pp unit.

I thought he had a great game for the most part, a few high risk passes in the d-zone that almost lead to trouble but he was skating hard, and was imposing his will on the game more than what he's done all year basically. That play where he pulled the puck off the wall, and then sauced it to Kravtsov was high end stuff. That's what I've wanted to see from him all year, regardless of the points.

Loved seeing him jump on Studenic after that dirty cross-check too. Him and Kakko both quickly jumped into scrums after shithead plays by Devil players.

We're soon going to be a team that actually doesn't turn the other cheek to that kind of trash. It isn't all because of the kids (we really do look to be coming together more as a team), but they're as big a part of it as anybody.

He will be fine. On a bottom feeder where he gets PP time and 1st line duty, he would've scored more points. In a season or two I think it's when this squad will be really competitive.

Those comparing Lafreniere to production of other prospects from past years must filter to the same number of games from the start of the season to be able to do apples to apples comparison. I hope the reason is pretty obvious even seeing how much Alexis progressed from the start of the season.

Hia hands are so quick! Once his brain speeds up to NHL level watch out.

i still would like him to be more engaged though. He still is tentative when not having the puck. Though he is better than earlier this year. I expect this will come next year though after the offseason of video and training.

i thought he was going to be a more physical player and more a complete player defensivly. hopefully he will add that part of the game to his type of game. I feel he will get better at this as he gets older.

It was looking a little scary a couple months ago, but it's starting to come together for Lafreniere. I have to say, the skill level, for all the hype, is still a little underwhelming, but he's going to produce. Feeling good about that. My hope is next year, more comfortable, all of a sudden we will see some things we haven't seen yet, and things will get real fun.

His ice time has gone down every month but his production has stayed around the same and improved a little.

Jan-8 games - 1 point - 15 min
Feb-11 games - 3 point - 14 min
Mar-16 games - 6 point - 13 min
Apr-10 games - 4 point - 12 min

Overall for the season he is at around 1 point every 3 games but in the last 2 months he raised it to around 1 point every 2.5 games despite declining ice time.

And I would say that the increased points are indicative of his play. He's improved steadily throughout the season.

I think we underestimated just how much not playing for 9 months could affect an 18 year old youngster straight out of juniors. I'd like to see how he looks at next training camp with a proper off season.

Physically needs to develop. You can see that he is figuing out the game at the pro level.
He has to bring his body to a pro level.
His progression reminds me of how Buchnevich has come along.
When this kid starts throwing his body around its gonna be impressive.
One or two offseasons are gonna make a big difference.

my biggest problem im seeing is his lack of ice time....especially against the bottom feeders like nj

he should have played 15 mins last game, that whole line should have played 12-15 mins
Panarin is the only forward on the team who has played 15 min per game at even strength. Like where do you pull this target number from?
