I realy like Robidas comparison too. I feel realy about what this guy realy is. Everything seen from him years after years is so different. Obviously, we get the guy in his prime and that add could be difference maker if he stays what we see now. I like the smarts!

Habs waited and waited for Barron to tear up the league Barron gone to the Preds. Now it's the preds turn to wait and wait for Barron to tear up the league. so far same old Barron' 4 games and 0 for 0 and -2.

Meh...he’s ok. People are gushing over him because what we had before him was not NHL caliber yet ( or possibly ever). Any decent vet would have improved that situation

Reminds me of all the hype and excitement people had over Mike Weaver and josh Georges until the clock struck midnight.

I said it at the time and I’ll still maintain we just should have went after Broberg but whatever, at the end of the day he is helping to stabilize a D corp that was massively overrated by the public so I won’t complain

We had 5 NHL Ds, we needed 6. Now we have 6. Beat writer for the Preds confirming what we already knew:

I see a lot of people mentioning Kovacevic here, but I just want to rant a little bit about him.

Kova was pretty toolsy, being a fast skating big guy. But unfortunately, he wasn't very good positionally and with the puck. Furthermore, he wasn't really physical for his size.

If you take a guy like Carrier and put him in Kova's body, he would be a top 5 - top 3 defensive dman in the league for 15 straight seasons. Carrier is extremely talented and driven as a defenseman. Of course his offense is nothing to write home about, but he has a solid first pass and he always starts skating as soon as the puck is on his stick.

Anyway... I have nothing against Kovacevic, but getting rid of him made sense. He wasn't very good.

No less than 10 players on the Devils are minus players while Kovasevic leads the team with a +16.
To say he wasn't very good is inaccurate imo. He was the perfect #7 D but in NJ he plays 20 minutes a night.

Ok that's pretty impressive not going to lie.

All though he was/is still young, he seemed like a good #7 D in Montreal like you said, but nothing more.

Carrier is a good player. Called it day one it was a good trade and that i liked him. Worse case scenario is Carrier helps us for two years and we flip him for a pick at the TDL if kids develop to be better.

I supported Barron because i think we should wait a kid to be 23 before painting him in a role but Barron was 23 now and he's very close to be wysiwyg and he was simply not good enough. Maybe he'll fetch a career like Hainsey but at least we got a return for him unlike Hainsey.

Still think it's important to try the kids before taking a decision which we did with Barron.

32 thoughts. Friedman had someone say to him that a lot of teams will regret not making the deal the Habs did to get Carrier.

The person said his own team is probably going to be one of those teams.
Yeah, given the context the person that said it is likely a GM or an executive that says his own team regrets it and there are other teams in the NHL kicking themselves they didn’t do the Carrier deal with Nashville.

Interesting stuff from Marc Denis on On Jase. Matheson before the Carrier trade was facing 2nd toughest matchups in the league. Now it's in the 150 range. No wonder he looked like dogshit

That's a great find.

I am not surprised that Matheson can contribute very positively in the right context.

People are so quick to shit on players without giving any thought on their capabilities and limitations. It's not a Petry or a Matheson's fault if they are placed in a role they cannot fulfill because of a paper thin rebuilding team lineup. What do you want them to do, refuse acting as an interim 1st defenseman? Do people think that these guys don't know when they make mistakes?

Sorry for the rant
