Yes, I think Xhekaj and the LD gang (Guhle, Harris, Xhekaj, Norlinder, Strubble, Fairbrother) was a big part of this move.

But Arizona got 11 for 27 and two 2nds. Wouldn't have been better to use 26 to get 11 and then 11, instead of Romanov, for Dach?

I would rather trade Romanov then the 26th OA. I would have just kept the 13th OA though and picked Nazar.

How things change quickly, couple years back, Romanov was the saviour of our back end as the next best thing in terms of PMD.
Still surprised we moved him + 13th for Dach. That's a steep price.

The Athletic on the trade

It’s a handful, but the Canadiens got the player with the highest upside here, and the draft capital needed to acquire him wasn’t all that steep. Dach hasn’t shown nearly as much as many expected yet, but at 21 he’s still young and still has top-six upside. He’s not that yet and could very well bust, but one of his top comparables at the same age is Sean Couturier, an extremely promising proposition for the Canadiens. Dach has other less enticing comparables that bring pause but considering his pedigree he’s a smart bet.
I don't get it..lol So for Wright, the scouts expecting more was the reason to pass on him. For Dach though, it's an opportunity that cost a legit D and then the 13th OV?
I think for the Habs, they just added a similar prospect to Wright in that Dach is a top 2 center youngster. It's a center behind Suzuki. He's got some seasons under his belt too so if he takes a step forward, then it could fast forward the rebuild.
Guess it's a gamble they deem worth taking.

Bergevin was criticized for being too passive and not having a vision, well it's definitely clear these guys are the opposite. I just hope it works out, otherwise we screwed again..

You can’t really say they traded Romanov and 13 th overall for Dach. They essentially traded Romanov and two 3rds for him

They didn’t trade Romanov +13 for Dach. They only had Romanov to begin with. They traded Romanov for the 13th and then flipped the 13th for Dach, such a weird trade, feels like everyone overpaid, I don’t like it at all.

You can say that Dach cost 13th + 66th, or you can say that he cost Romanov + 66th + 98th. You can't say that he cost Romanov AND 13th. We never had both those assets at the same time.

Correct, my mistake.

I hope that Dach can break out, cause that 13th could've given you Nazar or a bunch of other interesting players.
I think that the case for the trade is that Dach gives them a player with a different dimension, a center with size and speed, compared to other smallish pacy forwards they felt they could find bunched at 26 and 33, like Mesar.

Guess he'll play with a guy like Hoffman, cause he won't score much. More of a playmaker.

Love Dach but this is a big gamble…
13th and 66th would have been 2 players and it is paying a lot for a guy that has show promess but hasn’t really came back from that wrist injury… and now Chicago and Arizona are in a position to out tank us… even if the trade work out if it cost us a top 3 pick it will be a bad trade…

The more I think about it the more I’m ok with the Dach acquisition. I like that they’re taking a swing at something that could pay off big, I don’t think I would’ve made that bet on Dach, but sometimes these guys take a couple of years.

I can’t reconcile the Slaf pick, I think they made huge mistake here.

Well, hopefully Dach turns out better than guys like Nazar/Lekki/Ostlund among others.

Not sold on this one yet, might be yet another disappointing 3rd OA to add to our collection, might be a late bloomer.

Will give the benefit of the doubt.

Romanov was playing 22 minutes a game to end the year, those minutes will now be distributed to guys like Savard, Clague, Schuneman and Wideman or whoever ends up in our top 6. On top of that there is still the chance that Petry/Allen could get traded, we are going to give up a shit ton of goals next year and we are going to easily be battling for a top 3 pick.
