Can anyone give me a scouting report on Romanov and his upside?

Thanks.
Great skater who's very physical. Unfortunately, he has zero offense to his game and while he improved a lot defensively, he was still inconsistent in that area (although the entire team sucked donkey balls defensively). Very limited player but a solid player nonetheless.

You're gonna love him.

Hits like a truck, even if he doesn't look like the biggest or strongest.. he is actually pretty strong.

Sometimes prone to going for and making big hits which make him get out of position, but I think he's got better at this.

Good skater.

Great heart.

I hate that draft day, I am trying to convince myself that it was a good day but I just can’t. Romanov was the only bright spot on defense last year and he loves playing for the habs and is just getting better. Dach is a HUGE question mark and I just feel like we are going into the KK situation all over again. I feel like we would be better with Lekkerimaki, Nazar or Kemell with that 13th overall

Dach was a guy they wanted. They wanted to get a big center without giving up Romanov. But they couldn't get the picks Chicago wanted for him without giving up Romanov.

Hopefully they wanted Dach for the right reasons...

But I'm with you in the sense that: I still would have been going for talent over positional need at this point in the process of building a future core. Sure if we identify that we're super strong on D we can sacrifice a Dman for a forward. But we should be going for talent first and size and position second. I hope they really believe in Dach's talent.

Dach is a nhl player already. We don't know about Lekkerimaki, Nazar or Kemell. And Romanov being a bright spot on defense explain was habs picked 1st

Kent made a great point..

You'll never see a line of only 5ft9 players.... and it would be foolish to do so.

Size is important.

Yes, I do get that.

But look what Debrincat was just traded for. If you get talent you can trade it for good assets, no matter the size. If you get mediocre talent with size, you're not getting anything for it in a trade.

Ultimately I hope they have a good read on Dach's talent level. Because if they don't and it isn't very good, this trade won't turn out well.

I've heard he was rushed and should have spent 1-2 seasons in junior/AHL before making the step.

Let's see what MSL can do with him.

Only still 21yrs old, 6ft4 C...

Should be a lot of room to improve, and he has shown flashes.

I might be in the minority on this board but I do think he has offense in him, he's a decent passer and has a decent shot.

There's no reason to think he couldn't get to 30+ points in a couple of years with some second PP minutes.

I don't think he has the natural offensive talent to quarterback a PP but I can definitely see him getting in the McDonagh territory in terms of points.

You'll love the kid! He's a wrecking ball of energy on the ice.

Yes, Hughes also referenced Cole Caufield, who was in Dach's draft class, saying if you had looked at Caufield in the situation before MSL came in, you would have thought he wasn't progressing well.

So, now we will get to also see what MSL can do with Dach!

yeah I really do wish we got a Dach type of player without giving up Romanov. But I'm hopeful on both Dach and Slaf that HuGo got it right.

tbh I was even losing faith in Caufield at one point, ngl.

Like perhaps he really just is too small...

MSL is a legend and it's kind of surreal we have him teaching our players, and even have Lecavalier in Org helping out too.. albeit in a lesser role.

I also like that Dach is a playmaker. For a while now, we've had a lot of shooters with now one to get them the puck.

But still, he has to be not just a playmaker, but a good playmaker. Drouin is a playmaker, but a lousy one. Trading a burgeoning dman for him didn't exactly help us much.

I like what he could bring, i saw him as a mini Getzlaf his draft year and honestly i would have prefered to have the 3rd pick that year so we could maybe take Dach. He will probably never score 30 goals but he was always regarded as a playmaker anyway.

Lets wait before calling him a bust shall we ? If he turns out to be a 6foot4 200+ pounds who put 20 goals 40-50 assist i would be estatic, more would be like Christmas all season long

I really liked Romanov but if Dach become what he can be…
:cheers::banana::banana::banana::pickle:

Lets not forget Chicago did not have a great team either, someone know who was his primary line mate ? I guess Kane was playing with Strome or Toews ? Difficult to be good when you had some injury/covid thing/started way too young/shit show with scandale/ etc etc…

This trade looks so similar to the Sergachev - Drouin trade ...

The only two things going for Dach is that he is listed as a C and he is big but he underperformed so much I don't get why they paid 13 OA for him to be honest. I would have been happy getting Dach as a reclamation project to be honest but here it seems too much to my taste.

Why wouldn’t they? He’s one of the top talents from Canada U-22.

This trade could fail - however people don’t remember how much Zibanejad was a mess before getting into the Rangers system. Hoping Groton has a few of the same magic beans left for Dach.

Mika put up 46 points in Ottawa as a 21 year old, and the 51 as a 22 year old.

Now, maybe Dach follows that path, as he's just about to enter his 21 year old season. So we'll see.

How things change quickly, couple years back, Romanov was the saviour of our back end as the next best thing in terms of PMD.
Still surprised we moved him + 13th for Dach. That's a steep price.
We did not move him and a 13th for Dach. We moved Romanov , a 3rd and a 4th for Dach.

Dach has been very underwhelming… Couldn’t produce with Kane and a good ammount of ice time. It’s his 3rd year in the league. I would of kept the pick, maybe try to package it to move up even more. What would it of took to move to 4 and take Wright? 13+26+33 + prospect? Coming out with Wright + Slaf would of been unreal.
