Habs not in Bedard sweepstakes next draft. Hughes definitely not tanking. Slaf can play now and Dach immediate help. The 13th pick a lot of talent on the board.

I probably would have taken Kemell at 13. See him as this year's Caufield or Raymond. Definitely hung onto it until the selection in case somebody slid. Which did.

Slaf early favorite for rookie of the year. Playing for MSL. Likely play with Suzuki and Caufield. Make for exciting first line. I probably would have taken Cooley. Speed, grit and offense at center hard to find.

The 26th pick? I likely take Kulich. Thought he was goal scoring machine at U18. At 26, well worth the gamble. Unless something about him I don't know about. If there was, I take Hutson or Luneau.

Mesar decent player but fact he from Slovakia buoyed his selection for Montreal.

Dach has been very underwhelming… Couldn’t produce with Kane and a good ammount of ice time. It’s his 3rd year in the league. I would of kept the pick, maybe try to package it to move up even more. What would it of took to move to 4 and take Wright? 13+26+33 + prospect? Coming out with Wright + Slaf would of been unreal.

Well to put this in context, Dach has close to 0.4PPG in 3 years which is not bad in itself (not great but not terrible). However, he has scored less goals per game than Poehling...

Apparently, Sir Nicholas and MSL are wizards!

Guhle made Romanov expendable. Habs stacked on left D. After signing Harris also. Eddy is the seasoned vet. Nordlinder and Struble decent prospects. Romanov is rugged but not the smartest guy on the ice

They're definitely doing the Geoff Molson special. 1 year turnaround to bubble team

Mika put up 46 points in Ottawa as a 21 year old, and the 51 as a 22 year old.

Now, maybe Dach follows that path, as he's just about to enter his 21 year old season. So we'll see.
Way too many people are forgetting that romy didn’t look like more then a 3rd pairing D until his 21 year old season, we may see each start to put it together. I love the trade, smart asset management to give up a player in a position of strength to get a player with untapped potential at C.

Also worth mentioning that if Dach was a 50+ pt center we would all be clamouring for him

The key is that he actually has untapped potential.

Where do you see this potential? Because he was drafted 3rd overall? Because he looked great at training camp leading into the World Juniors?

I agree that he might have untapped potential. But for me to get on board with the trade, I have to know where people are seeing it.

And also, I agree that it was good to use a young LD to get a young forward. The key is trade the right young LD and get the right forward. As for the future core we're building, we only need 2 LD's and RD's. Bottom pair D's can be found in the UFA market and trades. But we need 6 to 9 Forwards. So given we have Guhle, Harris, Xhekaj, Norlinder, and Fairbrother on the left, definitely a good place to trade from.

I like your optimism. I was also a fan of dach but his stagnant production, and the hawks willingness to move on from him is concerning

This is what the new group gets paid for. They clearly think Chicago is making a mistake, so let's see what they can do here. Hawks were also willing to move on from Debrincat.

We will still suck. Defensemen prospects take time to develop into elite players, if they even develop that far. We may not finish last but we'll still get a top 5 to top 10 pick because our backend is still bad.

The trades may also bust and Dach stays where he is.

That most presumably due to salary concerns (and peak years not aligning with window). Dach doesn't have these issues.

It looks like a regime that wants to just rebuild everything from the ground up.

All I know is clearly Boucher, Nicholas, Gorton etc. think that they can rebuild Dach's potential and its a worthwhile risk for a 2nd pair LHD who has a lot of competition of similar archetypes in the system.

Worst thing about this trade IMO that it might also mean they rush Guhle. Really hope they start him off in AHL and give Harris Romanov's 20+min/game

Hughes said they would try to pick-up a veteran dmen to replace Romanov. So Eddy, X, Prospect for next season is the actual plan at LD.

That's a relief, I'm tired of seeing hyped defense prospects get rushed and turn to nothing (Tinordi/Juulsen)

Just look at our division though. We have almost zero chances to land inside the top 3 teams, and unlikely to hit on the wildcard. Every team around us has gotten better too, or still dominate, except for Chicago. they are a worse team today. I think we're closer to bottom 3 than wildcard spot, but I"m more worried Price comes back and wins a bunch of games for us.

So Guhle, who hasn’t played an NHL game, made a young established shutdown D that is able to play 20 minutes a game successfully on the world’s worst team? Expendable? HAHAHA!
What’s next? I hate this trade.

The only teams I can unequivocally say are worse than us are Chicago and Arizona. Seattle could be but rumor is they are going to be aggressive.

if the Habs aren't picking top 10 it means a bunch of young players have developed incredibly fast and in which case, a top 10 pick is no longer a requirement.

I hate it too, but maybe they know something we don't know and were willing to move on. Maybe they really believe in their prospect pool. He was my favourite player. I thought he was going to be a hab forever.

yes, it's been clear for some time that at some point the Habs are going to have to trade some young blueliners as there just isn't enough room for all of them. This is what happens, better to trade what you know then say a Guhle who if he continues to progress, which no one knows if he will or won't but if he does you could be looking at Weber light and you just don't trade that.

That reads like "let's rush Guhle".

I get the point, but Romanov had demonstrated that playing the 22-23 wouldn't be tantamount to rushing his developpment. Guhle... Didn't.

(I mean they could sign a pylon for 22-23 all I care and that would probably settle of issue)
