We gave up a chance at a centre who could be a dynamic two way centre slotted behind Suzuki for someone who could easily be another Kostitsyn, and then we gave up one of our top kids on defense for an underachieving centre with a bad wrist who can't score, can't make plays and can't win faceoffs. Why does Chicago give up on a 21year old who they picked 3rd overall in a good draft? HuGo has big brass ones for sure.
We passed on a centre who could easily be another Kotkaniemi for someone who could easily be another Ovechkin, and then we traded a defenseman we gave up on!!!!

I haven't been able to follow as closely as I would like to. Life is getting in the way. I can't believe Romanov is gone. This team has traded away more d-men. He's one of the reasons I watched last year. I think I'm gonna be sick. LOL

I get the point, but Romanov had demonstrated that playing the 22-23 wouldn't be tantamount to rushing his developpment. Guhle... Didn't.

(I mean they could sign a pylon for 22-23 all I care and that would probably settle of issue)

From The Athletic:

If he could use a strength to address a weakness, he was willing to part with Romanov, especially with Kaiden Guhle turning pro next season, a player with a similar profile. With the No. 13 pick in the draft secured from the Islanders in the trade, the Canadiens met what Davidson required to make the deal for Dach. Except we were told the Blackhawks had a possibility of acquiring the No. 11 pick in a deal for Dach, so the Canadiens added the first pick of the third round, No. 66, to sweeten the pot. They still have two picks in the second round and two picks in the third round. This was a small price for them to pay for a player they feel can seamlessly join their young core.

Chicago could have acquired pick 11 in a deal for Dach, so Hughes added pick 66 to sweeten the pot.

Just look at our division though. We have almost zero chances to land inside the top 3 teams, and unlikely to hit on the wildcard. Every team around us has gotten better too, or still dominate, except for Chicago. they are a worse team today. I think we're closer to bottom 3 than wildcard spot, but I"m more worried Price comes back and wins a bunch of games for us.
Addition of Slaf and Dach gives Habs two solid lines. Under MSL Habs will draft about 8-10ish next draft. Definitely not in Bedard sweepstakes. If Price comes back they may creep up close to .500. Draft 12-14th, but I doubt it

Dvorak line as third line is solid line. Evans as fourth line center is solid team up front..

So Guhle, who hasn’t played an NHL game, made a young established shutdown D that is able to play 20 minutes a game successfully on the world’s worst team? Expendable? HAHAHA!
What’s next? I hate this trade.
Guhle is ready. Higher upside. Romaniv just not that smart with puck.

You simply don't get many chances to get a kid that big, in the middle of the ice, with the skill that Dach has.

I reiterate, if the analytics and development staff feel they can fix his terrible development from Chicago - then you trust that staff and take this project on.

Dach would have been the 1st overall pick this draft without question had he been in this years draft and had his draft year season.

Really I can’t believe some people are crapping on Dach. The kid was in Chicago a team that was going no where had no sense of direction, he didn’t have a real coach to help his development plus being sidelined with a wrist injury didn’t help his development either. I’m confident that he will pan out under St.Louis and become a solid top 6 forward.

One thing to like from this trade, we’ve moved on from the lowball ‘’wins all his trades’’ Bergevin special.

For sure, getting fifteen cents for a dime is technically a win, but that’s not the way to build a franchise, especially when those trades are made haphazardly for the sake of not losing rather than purposefully advancing the team. Easier to trim around the edges than attempt filling the main holes in the roster.

Kind of like we ‘’won’’ by selling a galchenyuk that had been depreciating for years. Nice to end up with a season of 72pts Domi then Anderson but didn’t actually improve the team as a whole all that much.
Would’ve taken balls to trade or package him in his first few seasons but we could’ve gotten a more significant asset for it. Just one of many examples.

Same as investment, going for the low risk/can’t lose move generally means you’re not reaping massive profits either.
So what if we maybe overpaid or might lose the trade?
We’ve swapped two roughly 20yo players, a high floor-low ceiling guy for a low-floor - high ceiling guy. There’s risk involved of course, but that’s one way you can end up getting ahead rather than stagnating.

Habs got themselves a beauty.

Unfortunate injuries and coming to the Blackhawks under Coliton was not doing this kid any favors.

I actually watched Tony's podcast this evening with McCagg. And someone asked him if Dach was up for the draft this year, where he would be taken. Grant said 1st or 2nd.

When they announced this trade the camera focused on a Habs fan wearing #26. He looked confused. Why they focus on him? Somebody of note?

Ya I'll believe it when I see it. in 3 years he has shown nothing and is getting close to bust territory. And who the hell is Bob Stauffer that it matters what he thinks.

Habs are more likely going to seriously regret moving Romanov.
who are you that it matters what you think? :sarcasm:

I remember that woman. Turns out she was right

Depends. Most people that didn't want KK wanted Zadina and so far KK is definitely the better pick.

The few that wanted Tkachuk or Hughes are the ones that are looking good right now.
