How come Chicago did not keep a 21 year old big centerman with such a skills set. ?
Chicago wants to bottom, so i would say for the same reasons they did not keep a 2 time 40+ goal scorer who is only 24 year old with elite scoring touch...
With some teams in shambles, you don't question, you just say thank you , take what they offer and move on.

DeBrindcat was due for a big raise. Dach was not.

if cap was the issue with them, they have other overpaid players to trade.
They just very very badly managed. You know we have seen that before.
WHen i saw how their owner reacted to a reporter questioning a serious abuse issue, i never would wonder again on anything with this franchise as long as he is the owner.

Hughes did a trade that Bergevin would never do, he took a risk and traded a higher floor (Romanov, second pairing) for a higher ceiling (Dach, top-6 center). It's a trade that the Habs are not guaranteed to win, but if they win they have the potential to win big.

I like the philosophy behind it, to the point that I find it hard to take seriously anybody who hates it point blank.

To be honest trading Romanov sold me on Hughes in a way. I thought people were joking when they had him as one of our three core pieces. I saw second pairing guy at best. His offensive game never improved so there's only so far he can go.

Don't think it was about the cap with Debrincat, they had 2 years of team control left and they won't be good again in 2 years.
Still should have waited for a better return.

I liked him for his hits. But he was a 3 or 4 at best for me.

However, I'm still not sold on this deal. I would have loved to have Kemell in our system. Hope Dach impresses.

The moment Dach scores 50 pts. This trade needs to be romy + 1st pick to acquire him. I like the trade.

There is no guarantee in hell they gonna be able to draft Bedard next season. They have their reasons to trade DeBrincat and Dach.
Honestly, I just think theirs GM want to be the worst team in the league for 3/4 years and get the best pick possible each year. Keeing dach/debrincat wouldnt help to make happen his strategy.

We can all hope 60 points per season with his talent. 20g, 40a... I don't see why he can't do that. 60 points, two-way game, 6"4, top 6 C... that's a very good trade, no doubt.

I was hoping for Lekkerimaki way more than Dach.
Well apart from the top 4 prospects, Lekkerimaki was amongst the players taken to dinner by the Habs, so they were definitely very interested in him. The Habs were interested, and he was available at 13, yet they opted to trade the pick for Dach, this shows how high they value Dach. Given all that, I’m looking forward to how Dach pans out.

They did not "decide" to trade pick 13. Chicago was demanding that pick to trade Dach. And Dach was the centerman Hughes wanted because he knew they would draft a winger, Slafovsky at #1. That Romanov -pick 13-Dach was done before the draft.

You don’t think for a second they stopped to look at who was available at 13 and also took that into account before they made their decision? Not doing that is dumb and HuGo don’t come across as that to me.

No. The deal was sealed before the draft.

I think it is clear Chicago is tanking next season. Sure, there's no guarantee of Bedard, but there are a few gems at the top of the draft in '23.

Since the announcement was made between pick 3 and 4, obviously they didn't wait to see who was available at 13 beforehand.

"Dach suffered a right shoulder sprain during the second period Thursday against the Sharks when he was slightly tripped up by Nicolas Meloche behind the net, then fallen on by Sam Lafferty.Apr 16, 2022"
To miss the final 8 games of a throw away season.

Damn! That's almost as bad as Josh Anderson's shoulder injury where his arm was ripped off the socket and was quickly reattached with wires and strings
We didnt know if he could ever be effective again after scoring that 1 goal all year long... (It was only a partial labrum tear btw..)

Lol come on dude, I sprained my shoulder 3 weeks ago but it's weird, somehow I can still get out of bed in the morning?

Damaged Goods at 21, be serious please.
I just don’t think Dach is that good. He’s Pacioretty without the shot lol.

The fact we're loaded at LD also helps reducing the potential backfiring of the trade. We lost a good young LD, but we have Guhle, Harris, Xhekaj, Norlinder, Hutson, Struble, the swedish dude we picked in 2022, etc. I'm not worried at all.
