What does Mcdavid bring to the ice besides points that Ovi doesn't bring?
- Ovi has edge in physicality
- Ovi has edge in leadership and experience
- Defense? I would say they are not far from each other, neither one is contending for Selkes.

I bet if both are tied at the end of the season Ovechkin win the Lindsey nearly unanimously. The age gap will play a huge factor regardless who is voting media or players.
Not sure if serious, Ovi has shot and let's say physicality. Everything else is by a metric ton in favor of either of the Edmonton boys and we talking solely about them. There a many more players currently that I would take over our golden man, but then again I'm a realist and understand that you can't expect a 36 old guy to out perform men at their physical peak not even if he is a russian machine.

You sound much of fan boy, myself not a fan of those. If you can't really see difference between them.

Im terribly upset that you are not my fan. But for this season only, what is “everything else” that you speak of?

Ovechkin is probably a superior even strength player this year. It really is a shame how poor Washington’s PP has been this year because with a little more success Ovechkin would be the odds on favorite for the Hart right now.

Leads the league in ESG (21) and ESP (44).

I would make no predictions when he is going to retire. Many had him retired already. He could be Tom Brady and still delivering when this contract is over. I dont see him retiring then. Its only my opinion but I think he wants his kids to see him play. I think Sergei is a reason he is killing it this year. If his game is sliding to where he should retire, he will. If he is still legit Alex Ovechkin, he doesn't walk away from that.

He is the favorite for the Hart right now. Not a chance that any of the other scoring leaders can beat him in a popularity contest. He just needs to stay close and I think he is very likely to win another Rocket. He is the biggest thing in the game right now and him hoisting another Hart Trophy is great for the league

I agree, he is the favorite now. Especially with Edmonton circling the drain.

If he really wants to be part of the Hart conversation he really has to pick it up again. I had him heavy favorite a month ago, but now I just don't see it happening anymore. It's weird season in a way, we might see all the prominent trophies go to non-favorites.

I didn't think Ovie was going to keep it up all season, but I hope he gets to 100 points.

Some stats for you guys:

Ovechkin was the fastest player to go from career goals 600-700. He did that in 154 games which was a .649 goals per game pace and a 53.3 goals rate over an 82 game season.

Since then he has 72 goals in his last 118 games played. That’s a .610 goals per game and a 50.0 goals rate over an 82 game season.

He’s still bringing it on the way from 700-800 career goals.

He has 44 goals in 69 games this season for a .638 goals per games pace.

He needs 6 goals in his last 11 games to hit 50 which is a .546 goals per game pace.

He also has 8 goals scored in his last 11 games.

Ovechkin's next goal will make it 300 career goals from his age 30 season to his current age 36 season.

He has 299 goals in 506 games for a .591 goals per game rate over this span. That's a 48.5 goals pace over an 82 game schedule.

If we look at his goals per game from age 31 season to his current age 36 season, Ovechkin is the best all time:

1. Ovechkin - .58 goals per game
2. Bobby Hull - .57
3. Esposito - .55
4. Cy Denneny - .52
5. M. Lemieux - .52

120 goals away from the Great One exactly after tonight.
Really the only issue here is if he does it in 3 seasons, or it takes him four.
Ovechkin seems to thrive under pressure, so I'm going to go with 3.

It’s insane that he’s going to break the record. Insane.

I think Ovi gets 50 this year (to tie Gretzky and Bossy with 9 seasons)
But it will be difficult to get another one (hope I'm wrong)

So F*** the Devils for not pulling their goalie in 2018.

You know it's really f***ing shitty that a perfectly legitimate and on-topic post about Ovie that's related to shit discussed in the hockey media has to be deleted because someone turned it into a pissing match (that I intentionally tried to NOT escalate).

People should know what's being reported in the media regarding Ovechkin and the situation back home because it's "tarnishing his legacy" among those who don't have all the details.

Yeah, knew mine would be deleted. However, given my situation, could not ignore that post. Apologies for interjecting. We'll just pretend everything is fine I guess.
Anyway, I hereby banned myself from this HF board for a week. :baghead:

It's actually much more impressive when you add context:

Hull and Lemieux played only ~300 games into their 30s (to Ovie's 506)
Esposito played in a much higher scoring era.
Denneny was competing against amateurs.

I'm as big of an Ovie fan as exists, but he supports a murderous dictator. He deserves flak for that. Anyone would.

What don't I know? That is family is in Russia? That Putin might be requiring his support through implied threat or other means? That his post-playing career professional life in Russia would likely be decimated if he came out against Putin?

Are you suggesting it's impossible to be informed and still critical? I don't think those things are mutually exclusive. Putin is nothing without the support of the Russian citizens, and like it or not, the best information we have available shows he is (unfortunately) quite popular in Russia. We like Ovie because he is a great athlete, but he's merely a jock. He's not an intellectual or someone we look to for moral clarity. He clearly doesn't have it. That's sad, and yet completely normal and average.
