I’m amazed this guy wasn’t put on waivers today
Ha!I’m amazed this guy wasn’t put on waivers today
Yeah I mean I get that people are not happy with the way he has played for the last two years (inexcusable TBH), but some people like to have him as a scapegoat for the DeAngelo situation or Hank buyout. Gimme a break lol.Ha!
I came to this thread looking for information on the same thing.
I think Geo's a far better goalie than he's been showing. I don't have the hate that some posters have. But it's clear than he needs a new setting to regain his confidence. The team needs a backup that can give them a reasonable chance in games.
This is correct. At that time, geo's value was a peak of a 2nd rounder that Toronto was rumored to have offered.... Maybe that was media speak, so let's just say it was the same value as Talbot.... A 3rd +5th + 7th...
That would have been a perfectly fine return for a backup goalie... Hank would have been fine splitting games 41+41....
Instead gorts overplayed his hand and this is the result. You can't even use the "hindsight is 20/20" excuse here because even if Geo was a quality goalie, shesterkin was, is, and will always be a better goalie!
Georgiev is giving up more than 1.5 goals per game above expected so far this year. To put that number in perspective. The Rangers would benefit more from replacing Georgiev with an average backup than by keeping him and somehow having Conor McDavid in the lineup for games he’s starting. It’s not that close either. He’s been that badThe amount of hate this guy is getting is ridiculous. I guess we are just use to pure elite insane goalie perfomances. The next backup will have a hard task to please our crowd, needs to be nominated for Vezina or something![]()
I agree. You shouldn't criticize the player for GM decisions. That's on management and ownership. You should only criticize the player for playing poorly, exclusively.Yeah I mean I get that people are not happy with the way he has played for the last two years (inexcusable TBH), but some people like to have him as a scapegoat for the DeAngelo situation or Hank buyout. The board overvalues all players, understandably, but took it to a whole new level for Geo. Goalies have minimal value in this league. Early last year some ppl were still saying only a late first, like he's some solid starter, it was NUTS. Backup goalies are practically valueless when you can try 2 or 3 guys from the minors and one will likely end up being ok as a backup. This board would have lost their minds at that point if Georgiev was traded for a 3+5+7. People wanted a first for him.
Would AZ even take him at his cap hit? Are they looking to raise their cap that much that they'd take on a 3rd string level goalie, with very limited potential to be a 'solid' backup/mediocre starter at 2.4 mil?Place him on waivers so a team like AZ can claim him. Get his salary off the books
BTW, regarding my previous statement about Huska, I may take it back that maybe we can hope to get him to the backup role at some point. But we are not really there yet, considering he's currently playing the backup role in the AHL after Kinkaid. Need to start feeding him the starter role in the A first...I agree. He's played bad and the Drury needs to do something about it.
What's the hurry? Igor will start tomorrow anyway, and I bet Drury is trying to work out a trade rather than lose him for nothing over waivers.Kinda surprised we haven't see Kinkaid called up.

We can only hope. The hurry: While Igor is young, he's playing a lot. The last thing I would want is to over-extend him and risk him getting an injury.
Belive me I want to get rid of Georgie to but we need to trade for a backup if so. Kinkaid is not a NHL goalie for sure.Georgiev is giving up more than 1.5 goals per game above expected so far this year. To put that number in perspective. Arent his only injuries a minor groin strain while the team let Hank play off into the sunset and shitty NYC drivers? And Igor seems brittle, to be honest.
I think the thing that’s contributing to this idea is that Igor flops around back there like an Italian soccer player. That’s certainly my sense of it.Arent his only injuries a minor groin strain while the team let Hank play off into the sunset and shitty NYC drivers?

He does get run a fair bit...he's gonna snap one day like Hank and start feeding someone blockerI think the thing that’s contributing to this idea is that Igor flops around back there like an Italian soccer player. That’s certainly my sense of it.
I love the man and he’s obviously a great keeper but he has a tendency to make bumps and bruises look like career ending trauma. He may or may not actually be a bit brittle but his behavior on the ice muddies the water.
And push the net over. That was amazing. He does get run a fair bit...he's gonna snap one day like Hank and start feeding someone blocker
