I’m amazed this guy wasn’t put on waivers today
Ha!
I came to this thread looking for information on the same thing.

I think Geo's a far better goalie than he's been showing. I don't have the hate that some posters have. But it's clear than he needs a new setting to regain his confidence. The team needs a backup that can give them a reasonable chance in games.

Yeah I mean I get that people are not happy with the way he has played for the last two years (inexcusable TBH), but some people like to have him as a scapegoat for the DeAngelo situation or Hank buyout. Gimme a break lol.

This is correct. At that time, geo's value was a peak of a 2nd rounder that Toronto was rumored to have offered.... Maybe that was media speak, so let's just say it was the same value as Talbot.... A 3rd +5th + 7th...

That would have been a perfectly fine return for a backup goalie... Hank would have been fine splitting games 41+41....

Instead gorts overplayed his hand and this is the result. You can't even use the "hindsight is 20/20" excuse here because even if Geo was a quality goalie, shesterkin was, is, and will always be a better goalie!

This board would have lost their minds at that point if Georgiev was traded for a 3+5+7. People wanted a first for him.

If Benoit Allaire can't fix you than its time for this garbage can in net to go bye bye.

The amount of hate this guy is getting is ridiculous. I guess we are just use to pure elite insane goalie perfomances. The next backup will have a hard task to please our crowd, needs to be nominated for Vezina or something
Georgiev is giving up more than 1.5 goals per game above expected so far this year. To put that number in perspective. The Rangers would benefit more from replacing Georgiev with an average backup than by keeping him and somehow having Conor McDavid in the lineup for games he’s starting. It’s not that close either. He’s been that bad

I agree. You shouldn't criticize the player for GM decisions. That's on management and ownership. You should only criticize the player for playing poorly, exclusively.

He's played bad and the Drury needs to do something about it.

Damn... that puts it into perspective.

Geo's tracking of the play is so poor and he's got no confidence in his game, almost all his goals have him 6 inches-1 foot too deep in net which makes all the difference positionally between the puck finding him and hitting him, versus ending up in a corner of the net. Lack of confidence leads to him playing deeper to keep his lateral movement options open. Even when screened, if he can read that a shot is coming then push out a bit so the puck hits you, instead he rarely knows it and stays glued in his crease until he knows 100000% what's coming. Many of his good to great saves (he still makes some of them) are poorly located shots that hit him or he cuts the angle nicely.

It's interesting, Hank was always open with the media when he criticized his own game and often said during his cold streaks in his prime, that he wouldn't be trusting himself so he'd be too far out of the net instead of relying on his quick hands and feet to react and stop the puck from deeper positions in his net. He was a different breed of goalie, and played deeper with amazingly quick hands and feet. Most goalies need to identify the shot is coming and push out because they don't have Hanks amazing speed/reflexes, Hank was the opposite. It's why he was great at stopping cross ice bang bang plays. When Hank got to his upper 30's he struggled to find that balance, couldn't stay deep anymore because he was getting beaten top shelf due to his slight decrease in speed + the new breed of grinder who could also snipe it top shelf, and when he'd come out to cut the angle he wasn't able to save those cross ice bang bang plays anymore.

I remember Hank criticizing the EA NHL video games which had all goalies playing roughly the same style with tweaks for quicker reflexes, rebound control, being off positionally side to side etc. He said if they knew their shit they'd have him deeper in net that any other goalie with quicker hands and feet. Any goalie deep in net in those games would just get burned over and over.

The board overvalues all players, understandably, but took it to a whole new level for Geo. Goalies have minimal value in this league. Early last year some ppl were still saying only a late first, like he's some solid starter, it was NUTS. Backup goalies are practically valueless when you can try 2 or 3 guys from the minors and one will likely end up being ok as a backup.

Edit: Thank you mods for keeping the convo on point

Place him on waivers so a team like AZ can claim him. Get his salary off the books
Would AZ even take him at his cap hit? Are they looking to raise their cap that much that they'd take on a 3rd string level goalie, with very limited potential to be a 'solid' backup/mediocre starter at 2.4 mil?

BTW, regarding my previous statement about Huska, I may take it back that maybe we can hope to get him to the backup role at some point. But we are not really there yet, considering he's currently playing the backup role in the AHL after Kinkaid. Need to start feeding him the starter role in the A first...

What's the hurry? Igor will start tomorrow anyway, and I bet Drury is trying to work out a trade rather than lose him for nothing over waivers.

We can only hope. The hurry: While Igor is young, he's playing a lot. The last thing I would want is to over-extend him and risk him getting an injury.

The thing about this loser is he doesn’t look like he listens to allaire at all. He’s all over the place. There’s no way he’s listening to allaire and applying those learnings. There’s nothing compact about his game. He’s terrible on breakaways. He doesn’t play deep or aggressively he’s just always in between. His fundamentals are terrible. There just is no way allaire can say this guy is doing everything I ask of him. Looks nothing like an allaire coached goalie. Nothing

Belive me I want to get rid of Georgie to but we need to trade for a backup if so. Kinkaid is not a NHL goalie for sure.

Arent his only injuries a minor groin strain while the team let Hank play off into the sunset and shitty NYC drivers?
I think the thing that’s contributing to this idea is that Igor flops around back there like an Italian soccer player. That’s certainly my sense of it.

I love the man and he’s obviously a great keeper but he has a tendency to make bumps and bruises look like career ending trauma. He may or may not actually be a bit brittle but his behavior on the ice muddies the water.

Two groin injuries, he had a history of them over seas as well.

I think I remember reading that he changed his training this past summer to try to make sure this doesn't happen again.

He does get run a fair bit...he's gonna snap one day like Hank and start feeding someone blocker

Right now i would just waive him. I get that we all want to get something for him, like a bag of pucks, but honestly this would be a addition by subtraction move. Getting him off the roster cuts 2m off our books, it allows Kinkaid who has shown he is capable to play backup, or bring up Huska and see what we have there. Sometimes goalies just dont work out and right now id rather have a capable backup than try to fix Geo at a 2.5m cap hit.

Bye Felicia lol
