well he's not a center. So we won't see what he can bring when he's forced to play center.

I have a feeling we'll see his best offensive game next year when he's on Dach's wing. Yes, he can score, his primary offensive attribute. But he can also make plays with his linemates.
so maybe a 40-50 point guy at best?

Obviously he's not there yet, but I think he has it in him to hit 60-65 eventually. But he's one of those complimentary players that can produce, but won't be the line's driver.

Think Alex Tanguay in Colorado, but Newhook is more of a scorer than playmaker.

I wouldn't limit his ceiling.

But, if you look around the league, very few contending teams have over 5 guys scoring at least 40-50 points. So, I think he'll be at least a good 6th best scoring forward on the team. With good offensive players I think he can put up numbers. How many? Probably 25 goals and 35 assists - maybe one season of 25 goals 25 assists, then another of 18 goals, 35 assists. But we'll see... He's certainly a secondary scorer imo.

I think this is a lost year for Newhook due to the absence of any 2C's. Next season with Dach will determine Newhook's potential / future. Given what i saw in pre-season and the start the season, the chemistry he had with Dach was undeniable. I think he can produce in a complimentary role.

Newhook's style of game matches Dach's power game and creativity.

I have no concerns on Newhook.. the goal wasn't to get a star forward, the goal was to get another player into the top 9 of the team that adds dimensions lacking on the roster.

His speed is a great asset and he has good finishing ability.

Will be interesting to see who the 3rd wheel on that line will be next year. I think MSL will start with Anderson. But I actually think Ylonen's speed might work well with Newhook and Dach. Dach is the brain and will have the puck in his hands. Ylonen can retrieve pucks and finish and make adequate plays. For sure Roy has the highest IQ, but I'm not sure he's a fit opposite Newhook. And Hughes might get another top six forward over the summer...

Newhook would benefit some time with Suzuki and Caufield. He was heating up with them before his injury.

Right now, he doesn't have a lot of player playing with him that can push him upward. He's playing with 3rd 4th line caliber player and with a younger player than him and mostly against the other team second line every game. Which make it really hard for him.

Good news is the most gametime he will have against that kind of competition, the more he should progress and that progress will probably translate when real good players are added with him.

I think there is an outside chance Josh Roy gets the 3rd wheel if he continues to progress. I like his style of game as it matches pretty much any C. He has such high IQ that he can play with anyone.

That said, he has to be ready. If he's not, i don't see anyone else that can fill the role. May need to look at the free agent market for a temporary solution.

Dach is the ringleader and glue to a 2C line.

I see a good 3rd line guy in Newhook, the only question is .....was it worth a late 1st and early 2nd

Dont know much about Gulyayev but seems like Gauthier could be a good 3rd liner in the future too, only time will tell

Newhook looked real good when he played as a winger. Even with the Avs, I noticed he produced in games where he was 3W and usually put up goose eggs at 3/4C. He has all the tools to be a good 2W with his speed, shot and playmaking abilities. I think he has more offensive upside than Roy.

Roy's a wild card for me. He could have really high upside.

Newhook and Roy may end up as similar production players. Though they are quite different. Newhook has exceptional speed; Roy is below average. Roy has exceptional awarenness; I think Newhook is below average for a top 6 guy. Newhook has a rocket of a snapper; how scores with precision and knowing where the goalie will have a hard time covering.

Still early but we'll need to see next year.
Promises, promises, we are awaiting for the goals.

I'd really like to see him play a long stretch at W. Both the Avs and Habs have been screwing around with him way too much. HE'S A WINGER!!

Even though he has only played 27 games, he is tied for 6th on this club in goals. He was doing well before they stuck him at C and his injury.

He had 7 goals in 23 games before he went down for injury. That's a pace of 25 goals in 82 games. And, he was playing C for a lot of those games, which isn't putting him innthe best place to succeed. Looking forward to seeing how many he can put up playing the whole year on Dach's wing and pp2.

True making a winger to play center isn't great to start with. By everybody he's projected to be Dach winger, so let's see next year. But there are slim proofs he can be a legit top 6 as it is now.
