If we end up with a 3rd line of say Newhook - Beck - Roy, then we are a seriously deep and talented team! This could get fun in the next few years

It feels like this team is starting to come together. A healthy team next year and I think we are battling for a WC spot. It's still too hard to imagine us competing with the panthers lightening leafs bruins. if the red wings and sabres put it together, or if the sens ever play decent hockey, we might be outside looking in but I expect this team to be more competitive than what we are watching right now.

Scored a goal last night, was involved in the PP goal, used his speed effectively.

Y'all overrate picks.
I can't wait to see him next year on Dach's wing - and opposite Zegras on the other wing. :sarcasm:

In all seriousness it will be interesting to see who we draft with our 1st, as Martin Lapointe has already been talking about how the draft being deep in D could benefit us by allowing a good forward to fall to us. And also interested to see if Hughes packages one of our extra 1sts in another trade for a young forward to add to the top 6.

Really good acquisition from Hughes. He will be a important piece for the rebuild. Sometimes I see a future 60-65 pts player, sometimes 40-45. But he have great tools, shot, speed, IQ, skating. I like the idea of Newhook - Beck - Roy as a 3rd line in the future. I think they will complete well each other. They can produce offensively and with good two-way game aswell.

I doubt HuGo traded a late first + an early second round pick for Newhook to be a third liner. I expect 20-25 goals + 20-25 assists without the first powerplay which is pretty good for a second line player.

He just turned 23, how about we just patiently wait on what he will grow into. A second line spot is already in his hands this season and waiting alongside dach next year. He will have the full next year at least to develop into a reliable top-six forward. It's his spot to lose unless we acquire an impact forward or 2024 1st round pick develop fast into a top-six forward, if we do draft a forward (as we should).

He may end up on a de facto third line down the road only IF the roster remains healthy and with significant additions up front which should happen within 2 years.

If Newhook turns into a premier 3rd liner who can slot into Top 6 when we need, then it’s a solid trade.

I think Hughes also paid a premium just to get some actual talent now into the Top 6 to further player development. If Gallagher/Armia are Top 6 and we’re waiting on late 1st, early 2nd to graduate to the NHL, it might stall potential development of others.

I think they are too small as a unit

So we’ll have an elite 1st line with Slaf/suzuki/cc and a THIRD line of Newhook/Roy/Beck? lol.

I can’t tell if you’re underrating Newhook and Roy or you guys want a top 9 that’s one of the best that’s ever existed.

I mean maybe Newhook and Roy aren’t 2nd liners but they still have a ton of room to grow. I wouldn’t pencil either in on the 3rd line long term but we’ll wait and see

Do you want to win 4 cups in 6 years while scoring 4.87 GPG, yes or no?

Having a 2nd line better than that third line to go along with that 1st line is dynasty time no doubt about it

Then get on board jabroni and stop overthinking it.

3rd liners are important too, and when you are typically in that range of the draft with two picks, most likely one is going to bust for sure, and the other might make it and not be a top 6 guy himself.

We got to be realistic with what these range of draft picks typically end up being.

Lots of posters sleeping on Newhook...

He showed this year ample reason to be confident he can be a very productive top 6 player in his prime. I think he'll show that convincingly next season, provided he stays relatively healthy.

I wouldn't say "sleeping" I look at that forward core and I see a solid 4 top 6 guys. I don't have newhook there yet, but I just need to see more of him. Not convinced yet, but I'm not concluding on him yet either.

I'm not sold at all on Newhook. He has a lot of tools but he doesn't have the toolbox; if he will have it the Colorado Avalanche will have find a way to keep him under 3m for 4 years in a win mode situation. Colorado give us Newhook because he can't do the job if he have do it they will be happy to keep him with the money he make! Newhook was in burnout mode because he was playing bad hockey, Gally and Anderson say hi, and failed to make the job has a second center, he lost his spot and finish the year with 1 goal in 32 games without knowing where to use him!

Chicago give us Dach in burnout mode because they manage him bad and they try to trade everything they can to tank to rebuild fast; 2 opposite world.

I would never see Newhook has a offensive guy and if he stay here, he need to play on the 3rd line because we will never win with him on the Top 6; Colorado didn't think they could win with him on their team! If he can't win with Colorado with MacKinnon, Rantanen and Makar, do you really want to use that option here without that kind of talent on a bigger role?

This guy have some confidence issues and don't manage the puck really well without being bad at all; he is really good as a bumper but he waste way too much the puck in open play. Compare him to Roy, you gave 1 inch to Roy, he take 1 feet, you give that to Newhook and it's not the same thing; he have close to no "poise" with the puck!

For me, it was a bad trade since the start, remind a lot of the Andrew Shaw trade who cost us hypothetically Debrincat + Girard, but Hughes know him better than me and with the team we have now we can take a gamble on him to take the next step a couple years! We need to find a way to trade some assets too because each year we have too many prospects and can't sign everyone.

But for me it will be at best your Alexander Kerfoot with the Maple Leafs a couple years ago and not a keeper at all: if they want him for Lindstrom, they can have it! Not really good offensively but not bad, not really good defensivily but not bad. A player without identity and really hard to find him a specific role!

He's a complimentary offensive player with speed and a good shot. He doesn't have the highest level of playmaking skills. But he is able to make plays with his linemates.

I think he could score 25 goals or even more with a center like Dach. Would you still be disappointed in him if he did that? Or do you want more to not be disappointed?

He will probably get chance play with Dach if we don't trade for top 6 forward. I like to keep our picks and give Newhook and Roy a shot with Dach.
