Becomes Sakic's first trade he looses? Hope so. I know I liked when we traded for Newhook but I was not as excited as when we picked up Dach. There is a difference there for me.

Newhook did get a shot at 2C with Rantanen last season. Yeah, it was cup contender expectations but it didn't work out as well as the Avs hoped. With the Habs, he's going to clearly get more offensive usage.
A 21 year old sophmore coming off a SC winning season quelle surprise. I'm really confused as to what Sakic et al are thinking. But hey I hope they enjoy Drouin.

I'm siding on the safe approach on this one. I was a huge Newhook fan on draft day and I thought Caufield/Newhook were close.

Fast forward to today, I still see potential but not sure how high I want to project it. I do think we get more out of him vs what the Avs got but how much more? Not sure. If this turns into another Dach, WOW, just wow.

It looks better than Dach and I like Dach a lot.

Sakic got merc’d hard. PPG potential.

I put his shot on par with Caufield's in 2019. I really believe he has a future as a sniper winger, but watching him today close down on guys in the neutral zone and teleporting himself to offense was quite the revelation.

Not me. I think Newhook needs to be with Dach or Monahan. Could be with Suzuki/Caufield but I have Anderson with them. I think we get the best out of Anderson this way.

Who's the responsible one on the RHP / Newhook / Anderson line? I think we would be asking too much from Newhook in the 200' game.

Trying to create the line-ups are difficult. So many different options we can try
I'm saying IF Newhook plays center, as he did today.

Otherwise, I see Newhook with Dach. I'm open to trying him with Suzuki and Caufield, I would just think they'll be too small as a line...Anderson and RHP have become responsible defensively.

Yeah, I do have him as a winger who can play center. Not the other way around. Having an asset like this is valuable if you get into injury issues up the middle.

I knew his shot was very good. Skating and work ethic too. He's going to be let loose a bit with MSL.

Well I'm speaking in terms of an injection of speed and talent to our core. Where it ends up is anybody's guess but getting a quality NHL Hockey Player now over waiting the 3-5 years it would take if either of those draft picks even hits is big.

Who's all playing center today? Suzuki, Dach, Newhook, Monahan, Evans? I have not watched so tell me how they are breaking it out as they head towards preseason games. I do think MSL is going to tinker with several things.

What wingers was with Newhook? Curious

We all love the draft picks but lets face it, Newhook in the NHL at his age is worth more. Look at Mesar... the 1st rounder we got in the Toffoli trade. Who's going to project Mesar to be better than Newhook today?

Remember when some fans thought we should have kept the 13th pick instead of trading it for Dach?

because he looks better than Dach

Lets see a few games before we go there.

I wasn't one of them. So I'll skip this line if you don't mind. I had a feeling that Newhook was a buy-low opportunity similar to Dach to a degree. I know what the odds are against a late first or second succeeding in the NHL. It struck me as a high-percentage play.
An asymmetrical bet.

- Newhook at C with Anderson and Slaf.
- Monahan at C, with Dach on one wing and Joshua Roy on the other wing.
- Suzuki and Caufield had Heineman on their other wing.
- Beck at C between RHP and Gallagher.
- Evans at C with Armia on his wing.

While I don't think we'll see his full potential come to fruition in year 1 with us, it'd be doubly sweet if he has a massive season, putting up 60+ pts, both for the impact on ice and for the amount of crow some around here will need to digest lol 🐦

He said the same thing with Gurianov, that he didn’t watch any clip so he wouldn’t have any pre-existent assumptions or bias.

That didn’t work out well in the end, which wasn’t a loss in any way. Obviously, it doesn’t mean that it won’t work with Newhook, hopefully they give him every opportunity to succeed in an offensive role.
It could be that Dach and Garianov have different attitudes. While MSL had put in the effort to help Garianov, if he wasn't willing to reciprocate, well. . . someone once told me a story about a horse and some water that seems pertinent here.

I remember hearing from Marc Denis during a broadcast that Dallas coaching staff thought Gurianov had a good attitude and he knew exactly the things he had to improve to get to his potential, but it's always been difficult for him to apply it on the ice.

Some people are able to understand new information, but when it comes to applying and truly internalizing it, they get stuck. They need more time than others.

With all due respect, your lines are bad if you see Anderson with Caufield and Suzuki. He's been the worst with them, TBH.
