I'm okay with the trade, two 2nds basically for Newhook who I really liked in his draft class, but I guess we wait for tomorow to see who's left on the board.

The Habs want to build around the 21-23 age group.

Those 2nd round picks would have been on the team maybe in 5 years with some luck.

Also, we have a grand total of 0 Habs' 2nd round picks on the team right now. Hutson will probably be here soon enough but Newhook is a really good guess for the price.

I think late 1st round picks are overrated but I am not sure about Newhook. Already 22 years old and a career high of 30 pts.

And you give both 31st and 37th pick? I don't like it.

Newhook is going to produce more than 31 or 37 would for us, IMO. I have confidence it will be Dach-like when he gets ice time and more offensive responsibilities. Sometimes you get pegged into a hole on your current team (aka Arturri Lehkonen here) and a change of scenery helps you break that mold.

ugh , you know if the Avs made a trade Joe fleeced us. He does NOT end up on the wrong side of a deal. Fak

Seriously, I don't remember Sakic making to many bad trade. Another small player in the team. The first round and a third round should be enough for a 30pts player with potential.

Two 30 point seasons under the age of 22 is pretty good. There is upside here and room to grow.

This seems like a very steep price for a small, 30 point forward.

I guess the trade might make sense in a context where done other vets are going.

So…. Vancouver gets our 5th overall? Wash? Detroit???, Philly???

Briere seems agressive as f*** so I see him.

I know that tomorrow....I won't like the deal. 31 and 37....where you probably could get a future No1 goalie and another really great pick....But Newhook still has, I hope, some untapped potential.

Let's hope he's closer to Dach potential than to Jost...

Good point. Hughes has clearly targeted a window.

Really like Newhook, habs weren't getting a good player at #31 anyway. However def need to pick up some 2nd round picks in trades here.

He was 21 years old most of last season...
Other than size, Newhook fits what the habs want.
Who will he displace in the lineup?

Everybody here was raving that we shouldn.t give Dach for Dubois... so where does that leave Newhook... Is he a defensive specialist to replace Evans? Do they intend to convert him as a winger to replace Drouin?
