I sort of view this trade as sending 2x 2nd round picks for a youngster with growing offensive potential. Let's not forget that he was running at a pace of almost 2 points per game as 17 year-old in the BCHL.
I was however hoping that one of those picks would have been used to select Hrabal.

Well that takes care of the too many picks argument for this draft:

Newhook is what we believe Beck will be... I dont see the reason why you trade two good picks for a player like that. 5'10, not physical. At best 2nd liner. But do you want him as your 2C and Suzuki your first to win a cup? Absolutely not. So he will be our what? 3rd center? But why?

He's probably taking Drouin's spot. LW and spot duties on C.

In the BCHL...

Marc Bergevin: Centers are hard to trade for. You have to get the via the draft (proceeds to pick Galchenyuk and KK).

Kent Hughes: Centers acquired via trade: Dach, Monahan & Newhook.

Although to be fair to MB, he did acquire our best center via trade in Suzuki.

Bergy wanted Cody Glass, Vegas wouldn't bite and gave up Nick. It was dumb luck we got the kid, nothing to do with that gigantic tard we had running things here

Pretty lukewarm on this one. Sure there's still potential he could breakout, especially if we can give him ice time but seems like we paid a premium to take that risk. I have to assume this is just the first domino since we have so many forwards now, and obviously what contract he gets will be telling in regards to how they see him moving forward.

I'm kinda hoping this is just part of a 3 team trade usually that stuff is all announced together so not looking likely at this point.

Regarding the picks they gave up in this deal, I don't think we need to cry over that really. The Habs still have 9 picks this draft. And we never know, they might end up trading someone else and getting back another 1st that will be better than 31st OA.

I fail to see anything remotely exciting here. Small, LHS. Can play center but shouldn't do so ahead of Suzuki and Dach. There's upside, but...

He's basically replacing Jonathan Drouin in the lineup.
1W with Suzuki.

Would have preferred a 3rd instead of a high 2nd but I sense another trade is in the works. Way too many forwards and Dvorak would be a complete waste on the 4th considering his cap hit.
