All that for a 17 year old prospect he presumably won’t be picking, when he could just not pick him and not say a thing about it. Think about what you’re saying dude. Utterly ridiculous.

Umm, have you read this thread or social media in general? People are convinced Michkov is the second best player in the draft. If he's there at #5 and the habs snob him, the backlash will be considerable.

It's called PR.

So, if Newhook pans out as a 20-25g 60-70pt player you think that a late 1st and a 2nd is still an overpayment?
Yes, if the 31st scores 70-75 and 37th becomes top goalie. Lets wait a while shall we?
now he is yet another 30 pt forward

He had a sophomore slump but he can be a very good 3C that puts up 20G/50-60pts which would be very elite for a 3C
Too early for the E word. You guys are so hungry for success…

Changes by how much? It’s a start but we have several other organizational imbalances to improve upon. I’d wait and see how else the offensive forward contingent is altered before being sold that a new dynamic is at play.

Doesn’t hurt to have an offensive-minded coach, though.
After years of lethargy and stagnation, management has taken a bold step: securing a young, ascending dynamic player. Obviously, Newhook on his own, cannot change the direction and fortunes of this team. No one reasonably expects him to. Similarly, neither of the players that could have been selected at 31 and 37 can, on their own, be expected to have such an ameliorating effect. But in Newhook, one has a better idea as to what level of player he can can become. While there is no certainty, management, based on reviewing his first two years in the NHL, is betting on Newhook. Its not an imprudent gamble.

I don't watch Colorado alot. Newhook never stood out to me when I did watch, though.

I'm not going to put a point total expectation on him. If he finds a way to be a useful roster player, it might be worth it on its own.

Chances are that at least one of those 30 something picks doesn't pan out at all, but time will tell.
Chances are both of them don’t actually. This move is Hughes playing the percentages. I can’t say I’m all that excited about it though, but it adds depth, and Newhook is young and has upside still. He’s an NHL player; there’s a good chance neither of those two picks will be, so I guess the trade is already a win, albeit underwhelming.

Reading the tread, maybe Hugues can call back Sakic to offer him the 5th for the 31th and the 37th so he doubles his chance to get a star player, or even two

I'm worried the team won't make it without the 31st and 37th OA. They'll continue to wallow in mediocrity.

I said which would be not he is definitely. Just making an objective analysis on what's considered elite not a subjective analysis on a player

Jerry York, Newhook's coach at Boston College is on with Marinaro on The Sick Podcast and he says that he really likes this move for Montreal and that he believes Newhook will explode in Montreal. He says he's strong and strong as an ox. He says he's a terrific forechecker and also sees him more as a goal scorer than a playmaker because he has a nose for the net.

One single shift to tells Tortorella to eat some

There are plenty of other shifts to resume his 20-27-28-27 goals seasons career.

Galchenyuk scored more goals than him in a single season.

Horrible.

Dubois can't even score 30+ in his prime.

Face it, he's a pretender.

Not lottery. But 17th? Yes. It does. Clearly. Newhook for 17th pick. No doubt. Might have even be easier for both teams to explain it. Avs say that they actually got the same pick he was drafted in. And Habs say that, like I read here, the 17th pick is actually Chiarot and we ALSO keep pick 37th.

31 and 37th is actually what a pick around 18th should be the value of.

Ok... So to recap, we add a player ready to step into the lineup right away with ~16-18th pick valuation for what appears to be reasonable trade value.

What's the problem/complaint then :dunno:
