after the Dach trade you have to give Gorton/Hughes the benefit of the doubt on this move, it's a good gamble and they definitely bought lower than what Newhook would have been worth 1-2 seasons ago

31 and 37 is worth less than 16 from a draft pick value standpoint and Newhook got drafted in a stacked year (until around Krebs/Harley, around top 20), he did well in the NCAA and AHL, had a solid 1st year and stagnated a bit in his 2nd year, perfect time to trade for him if you think he has more to offer

go check all pick 31 and 37 last 12 season. You wont be scared anymore
While that's usually true, there's a legit case that 5-6 players this year could have went #1 overall last year.

It's a super deep draft.

I'd argue they gave up a fair amount more,

Dach last year was worth 13th overall ++ and he only got better this year and he'd be comparable to vilardi I don't think you'd get 13th overall for the picks we just gave up
Last year’s 13OA is worth a lot less than this year’s 13OA.

How in the world could you think the situation is irrelevant? Were the Habs rebuilding then when the had Price, Weber, etc.. vs the roster they had this year. It matters a ton. Clearly Hughes thinks he's getting a player today that in a few years will be a good bit better then he is now. Domi would make zero sense for the Habs
23 yo Domi would though? Which is my point?

We just traded two picks in a super deep draft... I'm not loving this. Newhook was pretty far down the depth chart, but Colorado had a lot of injuries last season and he couldn't take advantage.

I really hope we trade 5 for 7 and 22 now.
Right. Get us Leonard at #7.

You're completely insane if you think there is going to be any player available at the end of the first round that would've gone anywhere near the top of last year's draft.

Low? They bought for very similar value to his draft position

I don't. So far we lost Toffoli, Lehkonen, two pretty high picks, and they were unable to move Hoffman, Gally, Armia. Mesar and Rohrer picks are puzzling.

Okay so what's list what we've been able to move in 18 months and what we got in terms of significant assets (don't care about stuff past 3rd round)

Out:
Toffoli, Lehkonen, Chiarot, Kulak, Romanov, 2x3rd round picks, 1 late 1st, 1 early 2nd

(13th overall pick doesn't count as that is Romanov)

In:
Dach, Barron, Heinemen, Newhook, Monohan, 2 x late 1sts (1 was traded out), 1 x 1st (range unknown), 1x mid 2nd rounder

Jilted exes! Don’t read that! Bah!
Or you could read every thread from the season where he couldn't take advantage of a ridiculous amount of injuries where they all thought the same.

People who didn't want PLD, what do you think of this? Instead we gave valuable assets for a tiny 30point center which we already have many to choose from. Very nice.
Irrelevant.

Newhook vs. PLD was never a topic of discussion. Once Florida went on a run and LA started throwing assets Winnipeg wants, the whole "Dubois at a discount" window was closed.

i like the deal but i don't like what it means for who we might pick at #5, we added another small forward when we have a lot of similar players coming up and a few already on the roster

i think this deal means that we're way less likely to pick Michkov at 5
For me it mean we’re picking Reinbacher. 100%

Hope I’m wrong. Praying for Michkov or Smith. Pretty sure we can forget Benson

Guess the contract has to be considered too. PLD will probably do well in LA they aren't a pile of woke smurfs trying to win by going back to the 1970's formula of small fast skaters who play a 'smart game' , they have some balls to build on.

If fatso and Rogaine don't hit a homerun tomorrow, I will have made it 1 year till I hated our new management team, 6 months longer than the last pile of tards. I just don't understand what the hell they are trying to do here at all any more. Rebuild? Why give up picks unless its a Dach sort of deal? I thought we wanted to get bigger and drive the PP more?
