How has this kid not earned more ice time? 8-9 mins a game and still produces.

I hope TOI isnt in his bonuses:laugh:. Just came here to post this: Huberdeau and Yakupov have 9 points each on the powerplay, if gally had as much production as them he would be at 32 pts...

That's good for about 60pts in an 82 game season. :D Not bad for a rookie who missed all of last year and plays on the 3rd line.

Galchenyuk will be remembered as the best player of the 2012 draft in a few years. Kid is going to become a superstar!

I'll go as far as saying he's the best player drafted since John Tavares in 2009.

I think he can definitely rival Tavares once he hits his peak. He has all the tools. I'm 99.9% that he can crack that inner circle of the best of the best.

His production considering the lack of PP time, minutes in general and dearth of junior experience (relative to other superstars) is unreal. He's not even scratching the surface of what he can do.

I hope some of you realize that you don't play rookies 20 minutes a game. You ease them into the lineup, regardless of their production. Rushing them and forcing them to get used to the NHL will hinder their development.

Michel Therrien helped develop the likes of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin...I think he knows what he is doing a bit more than you.

Galchenyuk isn't their level though. He's more Jordan Staal level (who oddly enough had similar rookie year production).

Funnily enough, Crosby averaged 20min as a rookie, and Malkin 19min, under Therrien.
I wouldn't give much credit to Therrien for Crosby or Malkin, those guys would have developed into the same players under Cunneyworth. I'm sure Therrien gave them some good pointers, and helped, that's his job, but I'm not gonna credit him for their development. Those players are so easy to develop, they're exceptional talent.

As for Galchenyuk, ya, there's no reason for him to get 20min of ice time. But he could get a couple more minutes, especially on the PP where his skill set is a clear advantage.

Of course I know Galchenyuk isn't their level, they are top-tier, elite players. Galchenyuk isn't quite at their level, especially considering he was injured most of last season, so his development needs a different approach. They are just the two most obvious examples of prominent rookies that Therrien helped into the league. I'm not giving the credit to Therrien, I am just using an example to help explain my point that Therrien has experience with developing rookies in this league, and we can trust that he does the right thing with our young players.

I do agree with you, Kriss, that Alex should get some time on the powerplay. But his restricted minutes are sadly something that is necessary as we try to break an elite 19 year old into this league.

If you give him 13-15 minutes of ice time, it won't hinder his development in any way. Some say he makes mistakes on the PP, especially when he overhandles the puck or tries to make the "perfect play."

Good.

Rookies make mistakes. Regardless of skill set, mistakes happen and the only way for rookies to learn is to make them and adapt to the situation so that next time, it doesn't happen again. Hell, I saw Crosby overhandle the puck once against Montreal. It was during his first year or two and in OT. Penguins were on the PP and he coughed it up trying to do too much, it went the other way and the Habs scored. Did Crosby's development drop because of that gaff?

Galchenyuk has proven that with limited ice time he can play. He's a gamer. Maybe we see his ice time doubled -- or close to -- during the playoffs.

Yeah Staal is comparable to Galchenyuk but that wont last long. Look at Crosbys +/- in his rookie year, he scores 102 pts, 47 of them on the PP and is -1. So he was on the ice for 56 goals against. Not that great defensively.

Galchenyuk on the other hand has Staals stats as of now but I think his overall game will be more of elite two way center. Might just be very elite in that category as well.

He was -1 on a 29th place team. Only 4 players on that team played more than 70 games that year, Crosby, Malone(-22), Melichar (-2), Gonchar(-13). That's actually pretty good.
It is the only time he was a minus player in his career.

But yes, Galchenyuk is smart defensively.

Can I just say that the 8:21 ice time Chucky got was a result of MT trying to shut down the Stamkos line with Plex. He normally gets 12+ min. per night so please relax.

As for his limited ice time, I get the feeling this will come as a huge advantage come playoffs. We have a really good 3rd line that can be a 2nd line that's super rested and can take over a game against a worn down opposition come playoff time.

Considering he missed his entire draft year in regarding a to development and playing this Well is amazing. Imagine if he played 80 + games last year how far along he would be. I think he would have gone 1st overall.
