Interviewer: Jonathan, who are you looking forward to playing with in Tampa?

Drouin: ...Eh, well..

Sasha: Stamkos.

Looks like Barkys got Tampa well scouted already.

yep, also shows how tsn thinks florida panthers are the laughing stock of the NHL, gives the ring to drouin and ******** to the panther

i wonder if they give crap like that to their favourite canadian franchises too. here, a bob sledge so you can enjoy the cold summers in canada

Don't know about that. Sabres pick Rasmus Ristolainen got women's thong. Compared to that Barkov's gifts were great.

Reporter: "How do you feel to get play against Crosby and all the other NHL stars?"

Barkov: "I'm not taking a bow at anyone. Some of the peoples might think that they're godlike but they are just hockey players, obviously good ones but still"

Reporter:"Your team have been bottom team for many years. It has reached into SC finals once but the team has reached 4 times into playoffs in 20 years. Does that worry you?"

Barkov:" No i'm not worried. Every team has a chance to win Stanley Cup. We don't start the season by setting our goals for the 10-14th place or etc. We try to win stanley cup. Florida has a good team and we don't need superstars to win it."

Reporter:"Personal goals?"

Barkov:"I try to crack into FLA roster from the camp and remain in the team for rest of the season. The florida weather is like cherry on the top but the game is the most important thing"

Sorry from the bad english. Tried to translate it for you guys. I like his approach and his goals from the rookie season. He is little bit of optimistic about trying to win the SC but he really believes that they could. There is not too many guys who believes his team as much as he does and i'm certain that he will give his all to help team to win.

Thanks for the translation, really appreciate it! Sasha seems to be saying all the right things. I'm definitely liking the kid.

I really like it..You have to think you can do it otherwise you will fail! I am so glad we took him in the Entry Draft. Kudos to Dale Tallon! Barkov was a sleeper in this draft after "The Big Three"! We took a shot at him and should be rewarded. Great character :handclap:

Here's a couple recent tweets from Goldie:

Steve Goldstein ‏@goldieonice
NHL person I trust...on Barkov. He will be at worst a very good 2nd line center. Could be top 10 NHL scorer, #1 center, plays D as well as O

Steve Goldstein ‏@goldieonice
Another thing on Barkov, he can have great affect on a game even if he's not scoring. Something Panthers desperately need.

This has me worried a bit. It's a recent interview with Mikael Granlund..

(intro of how Granlund had difficulties this season and got demoted to AHL)

"What's the problem, Mikael Granlund?
- I was given a brilliant opportunity but couldn't use it. Ten first games were really difficult. I noticed that goddamnit, this is a tough league. NHL is where the world's best players play. The level achieved in Europe is simply not enough.

- My game improved after the start but I didn't get much responsibility anymore. Short season also became a factor.

How tough was it for you when you got demoted to AHL? Were you kicking trashcans?

- Not really, but of course I was upset. Everyone wants to play at the top, but of course it's better to go to AHL than sit in the pressbox. You must remember that AHL is a really tough league too.

What do you need to improve?

- I must be able to make quicker decisions in the rink. In Europe you have time to hold on to the puck, but in NHL you have two guys immediately on your back. I must not lose the strengths of my own game though. I hold on to the puck a lot. I must find myself space in the rink. Also I need more strength for one-on-one battles, and improve my skating to a level where I can go 45 seconds end to end.

How do you achieve that?

- I have changed my training for this summer. I work really hard. It's really important to control your whole body, for example. It's of no use to pump up your bicep at the gym as much as you want, you need your whole body in battle situations.

In North America competition is extremely hard. Did it come as a surprise?

- It didn't come as a surprise. I'm pretty competitive myself. But it's clear it's not the same in Finland. In North America already 5-year-olds compete against each other. And the best work even harder, because you have so many guys knocking on the door behind you. In Finland players have it a bit too easy."

NHL is a shock to all rookies. MacKinnon and Jones will feel the same way.

Of note, Granlund is 5'10" and 176lbs. Barkov is 6'3 and 205. Sasha won't have to be quite as fast as Mikael due to the size difference.

That being said, it will be an adjustment no doubt. Just noting the largest difference.

Granlund plays very european type of hockey. Holding the puck for long time, he benefits from having more time and space. Barkov plays very north american type of hockey. Quicker passes, quicker decisions, straight foward style. Barkov has most success in dirty areas of the game. Infront of net he is hard to stop. At the boards Barkov is very good at protecting the puck and winning battles. Granlund is slower skater than Barkov. I think that every kid has adjustment to do from this draft.

It doesen't mean that if Granlund had big struggles adjusting into NA game that Barkov would struggle. Granlund is top 6 player PP specialist. Barkov in the other hand can play in every situation. Granlund was weak at puck battles in FEL falling on the ice alot of times and he was somehow protected by referees. Barkov is at times unstopable at the puck battles using his balance, strength and reach to win them.

Totally different players. I would not put any stock in Granlunds struggles.

To add to what thomast already said, MG's game is based on him slowing the pace down, a lot. He just doesn't have the time nor space to do that in an NHL rink, plus it doesn't help when he gets knocked down easier than a 9yo girl.

NHL just needs strenght that Granlund lacked. I expect him to be fine after he has trained and eaten some "NHL-protein". Barkov has a lot of better chances, because he's big guy and naturally has more strenght.

Heh, heh, last summer Barkov went to Russia with his father and came back 30 pounds overweight :amazed: . Maybe this summer also? Anyways he is not going to join rookie development camp, because of his shoulder?

This has me worried a bit. It's a recent interview with Mikael Granlund..

I'm a Finnish Wild fan and have seen both Granlund and Barkov quite a bit. Granlund's problem in the NHL has been a combination of his small size, lack of strength and poor skating (relative to other players his size) and the way he operates/operated on the ice. His game in the NHL did indeed improve after the first 10 games or so, but it was too late by then. If he can get his skating and strength issues solved, he's still going to be a good NHL player. If he was the same size as Barkov is, he would've had a much easier time adapting. Granlund used to be on his ass quite often even in the FEL, while more often than not Barkov knocks other players on their ***** thanks to his size and good balance, without actively trying to do so.

Granlund had to be eased into the FEL as a winger, Barkov started as a center and stated there. Granlund was moved to center eventually and did fine after an adjustment period. One of the biggest differences between the two is that Granlund is that despite being a genius offensively, Granlund doesn't have a natural ability to defend. He can learn to be a decent defensive player because he has great work ethic, but it's not natural like it is for Barkov.

Granlund operated pretty much solely relying in slowing down the game and having all the time and space in the world. Based on his play in the World Championships this year, he has become more attuned to the North American game and I don't think this will be his biggest problem going forward. Barkov operates in a different manner by default. Yes, sometimes he slows down the game in a similar manner, but most of the time I'd actually say he slows down the game for others instead of himself by making quick decisions. He can think and act fast by default, but usually tries to find time and space for others by slowing the game down. I don't know if this makes any sense, but it's the best I can do.

I would be surprised if Barkov didn't need an adjustment period at all, but I don't think he will struggle as much as Granlund did.

I've never heard about that. He seriously gained 30 lbs over the summer?

And he's on the development camp roster. He'll be wearing #16.
