Alec Martinez Extension Talk

Toffoli and Pearson are pretty untouchable to me at this point unless we get offered something ridiculous. I feel like Martinez still doesn't get the credit he deserves from some people around here. Remember this: he has partnered mostly with guys like Greene/Regehr and makes them BETTER.

Between Stoll/Richards/Regehr/Williams, i'd like to see us keep Williams and Richards (unless he really regresses). Unfortunately, Stoll is going to have to take a massive paycut or we are going to give that spot to Shore or Weal. Based on the team's play the other night, I think it's fairly obvious that we can survive without Regehr and Voynov. It'd be really nice if we could somehow package Voynov and whatever else it might take to get a first rounder. Next year's draft has a lot of high end talent. McDavid/Eichel? Yeah, I know i'm dreaming but anything's possible...

That's great news. The recent stretch of games with the porous Kings' defense has really helped Martinez stand out as one of the few positives on the blueline. Unlike Greene and McNabb.
 
A-Mart has been very steady, and deserves his increased role. Lone bright spot other than Muzzin/Doughty pairing that has been off or on.
 
Yeah, I'm glads to hear this too. If its going to happen it'll be under terms both the team and Martinez find favorable, so this is welcome news.

And he has looked swell with the extra responsibility. I hope he gets some time with Voynov soon just so we can have a peek.

I think this is one of those situations where you really don't realize what you've got 'til it's gone. Martinez has been our most effective D-man this year IMHO.

Hopefully we can end the McExperiment soon....

what figures do you think Martinez, Top titty and Pearson will be signed at - if there isn't a big rice in the cap, I cannot see how we can sign any of Stoll, Williams or Regher and all are important pieces.

Martinez will be 3-4 mill. Toffoli and Pearson both get bridge contracts. Pearson @ 2 mill and Toffoli at 3-3.5. Regehr will be gone. Stoll will be gone unless he wants to take 1.5-2 million. Honestly, with the way Shore is playing this year I think he's ready to step into that role. He is also really good in the FO circle. I'd like to see Williams stay, but no idea what he is going to be asking for. A lot of it will probably depend on how we do in the playoffs this year.
 
So far, J-Dub/Stoll don't deserve raises, both playing themselves off the team.

But it's early still.

Nick Shore is man handling the AHL, and is a beast in the Circle.

looking at cap geek if we give Martinez 3.5 and Pearson 2 and Toff 3 we would be over 69m and likely close to the max
losing Stoll and Williams from the locker room would be huge and losing Regher after losing Scuds and Mitchell would be bad - I would like to see Regher hear for another 2 years as the vet with so many young D
A lot will depend on the Voynov outcome - even if he is cleared and no issues going fwd I could see us trading him so we can keep one of the above mentioned.
I could see us wanting to get rid of Voynov salary and get a good player who is on min (so somebody good drafted recently) - this would mean us throwing some high picks in

I don't know if Richards will be gone - he is close with Carts and Carts is happy and doing so well - and not like Richards is playing poor - just not getting top minutes
 
I'm not sure if I'd trade Richards just yet. He is still pretty valuable in the playoffs. In a couple years? Maybe not so much...

I think we are going to lose one of Martinez or Voynov. If we get a couple mill bump in salary cap next year that would definitely help.

agree with BMR - Cannot see Richards going and would like to see Williams and Regher kept (Stoll if possible) - with a couple of mill bump and I see Voynov as the odd man out.
I cannot see us wanting to weaken if possible so Voynov and picks out for a recently drafted good defenceman on low cap hit.
it would depend on Voynov's value after 01 Dec.

even if we don't resign one of Williams or Regher plus Stoll it is going to take some hard work from Dean to get Pearson, Toff , Martinez and one of Regher or Williams signed for us to be under the cap - After this year I imagine he would prefer some wiggle room as well.

The only way I can see Voynov not being apart of the Kings is if he's convicted and his U.S. visa is revoked. Dean isn't going to deal him if no charges come from the DA, that's not his style.

Slightly higher than I'd like to have seen, but can't let him walk. Good signing esp with what's going on with Voynov.
 
6 years and all of them UFA, it's a good deal. Definitely can't afford to lose him while the Voynov situation is up in the air.
