Hope we keep Marty but won't be surprised to see him walk. Kings legend forever no matter what he decides to do.

Anything over $4 million and I don't think the Kings can afford to keep him. He's a second- or third-pairing guy that steps up when we need him to, but we already have guys like that in Muzzin and Voynov. Unless our top four is going to be Muzzin-Doughty and Martinez-Voynov, which would be pretty soft and not too physically intimidating, which really goes against Lombardi's M.O.

Haven't been able to watch too many games this year yet,

But let's say Martinez re-signs, you gotta think that means Stoll is gone, and next year down the middle is Kopitar, Carter, Richards, and then Andreoff/Nolan/ or Shore as the 4th line C, probably whoever is better defensively and or faceoffs, might just be between Andreoff and Shore, but Nolan's natural position is C.

There haven't been too many guys that Lombardi has just let walk away. Scuderi wanted to go closer to home. There was just no room for Mitchell under the cap. He even wanted to bring Penner back to some extent.

The Kings are going to lose somebody, I don't think there's a question about that. In the big picture, Martinez is still young, and he's a defenseman. If you had to choose one between Martinez, Stoll, and Williams, Martinez would most likely give the Kings more for a longer amount of time than the other two.

Jazz hands is in the bag...Dean will throw in the sombrero as his bonus.

If Voynov is getting just over $4M, I think Martinez would get closer to $3M than $4M. It might be different if he puts up some PP points this season with Voynov out but he is a 3rd pairing defenseman otherwise. Maybe not to another team but if he is going to be on the 3rd pairing in LA, he is going to probably have to be paid like it.

The kings don't have any young left handed Defensemen like Martinez in the minors to replace him. If their going to sign him they better do it now, and don't wait until off season. If Martinez gets close to 4 mill he needs to start killing penalty's. Stoll, and Williams aren't coming back if they sign Martinez.

Nick Ebert is the more logical replacement for A-Mart. Similar games and build. Also Ebert is playing his first Pro season this year.

Where do you envision Mckeown down the line? I haven't thought that highly of one of our defensive prospects since Voynov. Seems to have all the tools.

Kid is a long ways off, he is at least three, maybe four years away from seeing NHL ice. By then, the Roster will look different.

Roland is 18...I wouldn't expect too see the kid until he is at least 22.

FYI, Voynov averaged $5.325 million for the 2 UFA years he gave up, and Muzzin averaged $4.25 million for the 4 UFA years he gave up.

I'm guessing 2.5m per for two years, lets Jazz hands get a big increase, keeps it affordable, but also lets him pick up a big payday when still under 30.

Martinez Should Receive Decent Pay Increse!

I'm thinking that if Martinez' camp asks for 4.0 million he'll be jettisoned outta here! However if the price is between 2.0 and 2.5 million he'll stay especially if its a 3-4 year deal! Not sure where Martinez might end up but I think a place like Dallas would certainly fit if he goes that route. With changes likely to happen to the Kings and with the salary cap looking to go up again there is a good chance Martinez takes the money and stays put.I guess a lot depends on the Voynov situation and how far the negotiations drag this year and whether the Kings continue with their winning ways or fall back!

I don't recall anyone saying the Kings aren't interested in keeping him.

But it will be very hard if he's going to want $4 million as a (currently) bottom pairing niche defender.

When asked whether the circumstances of playing for the Kings and living in the South Bay were ideal for a professional hockey player, he offered what amounted to be a strong affirmation.

“I think that the biggest thing is the group of guys. At the end of the day we’ve got a really good group of guys in here,†Martinez said. “Obviously L.A.’s the only thing that I know being drafted here, but talking to guys that have played in other places, they say that we’ve got something special here, and I’m a believer in that. There are probably not many teams [where] you get all the guys hanging out together at once. I think maybe the South Bay has a little bit of something to do with that and the fact that everyone’s just geographically really close to each other, just a bike ride away. But it’s also a testament to what management has done in bringing in good guys and good players and guys who get along. Obviously it’s a great group to be a part of.€

Theres no way hes going to be signed in the 2 - 2.5 range, 3.5 is probably the lowest Dean could negotiate and that is already a pretty heavy discount from what he could get on the open market. Also we don't really have anyone capable/ready to replace him especially since Regehr probably won't be resigned.

Currently he's playing 19 minutes a game while leading all d-men on the team with a +6.

So, while he's on the "3rd" pairing, he's playing 2nd pairing minutes.

He's going to want, and deserves, the same as Voynov (around $4.1Mil per) for a bunch of years (5 to 8).

If we can do that deal, then we keep him.

Trading away about $5.8Mil in salary next June would
make it possible.
;)
