In Nash's and Hagelin's absences, coach Alain Vigneault and GM Glen Sather have other options to address their forwards' deficiencies. Vigneault can start by making good on his promise to demote either Benoit Pouliot or Mats Zuccarello from the second line to give second-year forward J.T. Miller, 20, a more prominent role.

Sather has an open roster spot - due to Nash's being on injured reserve - and approximately $2.25 million of cap space due to Hagelin's unavailability on LTI. So the Rangers GM could recall Chris Kreider, 22, for example, and give the 2012 playoff darling the opportunity he deserved out of a training camp in the first place.

Kreider didn't play well most of the preseason, but it turned out he wasn't in a position to succeed, either, on the left wing of Richards and Nash, who both drifted aimlessly for the first several games.

It will interesting to see what happens when everyone is healthy.

Zucc was good enough for this team in the stretch last year, when he finds momentum again he'll be his old self.

playing him with Pouliot does not help his case at all though. And neither will playing him with Miller or any AHL player

Zucc

I have been reading the various topics on this forum with great innterest.

Regarding Zuccarello, i am suprised over how much hate this guy gets. I find it hard to belive that removing him from the line up will solve the teams problems.
Its the top guys that doesnt do their job. Like Nash, is he really worth all that money compared to
what he produces on the ice? Same with Stephan...overrated player also who doesnt deserve all the hype he gets.

Boss, Stepan and Nash were our two top leading scorers last year.

Zuccarello has 0 points in 6 games.

I like the kid, but don't make yourself look foolish by comparing him to players of a completely different quality.

I don't necessarily like belittling others but this is stupid

lol wut?

Contradict self, blame it on Nash and Richards.

Well I dont agree, they are supposed to be super stars, they are not.
While I have no problem with beeing called stupid, i honestly done care :)
I dont feel they have carried the team the way they should.

And comparing zucc against them is not what im doing, he fits in on a 3rd line i think, nothing more. But you guys are sending alot of negative hype his way...and I dont think he is the main problem on this team.

The team leaders are not leading the team the way they should. Maybe exept cally

Well Nash is already out of the line up, Stepan and Callahan are playing catch up from missing out on preseason so we can't sit them right now. Richards is on fire and what other option do we have in goal besides Lundqvist to sit him? Zuke is being counted on for points, not to be a 3rd line grinder so he has to start producing because he doesn't bring other things to the game like Nash (size) Stepan (smarts) and Callahan (leadership).

No one thinks it will solve the team's problems, but the lack of scoring from the 2nd line (mainly Zuccarello and Pouliot) is an issue that needs to be addressed. Zuccarello has 0 points in six games. He needs to start producing.

Oh and yes. Nash and Stepan are worth every cent on their contract.

It would make more sense, however, to give Kreider another chance. The organization wants Kreider to stay in the NHL the next time he is called up, rather than bouncing him back and forth like John Tortorella did last season. So they would rather he stay in the AHL now, continue playing well and gain confidence.

My guess is on Kreider, Rangers don't want to call him up and down all year like before. Once they call him up, will be for good. We'll see

My view is unless Kreider will play major minutes up here, leave him in the AHL. Same thing with Miller. Don't put Miller on the wing.

Ok, i havent seen many ranger games lately, where would you say the biggest issue is then? They need a top goal scorer right? Besides Richards i fail to see anyone stepping up:shakehead

Nash had three points in three games before he got hit high. He was a slightly less than a PPG last year...

They need secondary scoring.

Another Kreider apologist. This stuff is rich. Now, playing with the team's 2 best offensive players didnt work because they were coasting in the pre-season. Maybe one of these days Goldie Locks Kreider will find the porridge that is just right.

You are very negative to everything:-)

whens the last time one of our kids forced his way to ny by simply playing lights out in hartford ?

kreider needs to start scoring and being hartfords best player. soon.

I mean he has 3 points in 4 games. That's not exactly slacking. By most accounts he has looked very good using his size, speed and shot to put defenders on their heels.

which is exactly what he has been doing..... but knee jerk reactions like bringing him right back up would be silly....he needs to dominate for an extended period

Should be the same for Fast

Calling players up and down, playing them with the 5 or 7 NHL 4th liners the Rangers have is not going to do them any good.
