Maybe Pitts system only works with a Crosby. After all fans on this board used to bash Sullivan all the time when he was a Rangers coach. Maybe Chicagos system only works if you have a Kane and Toews?

Lundy has played for 3 NHL coaches but only made it to the cup finals under one. Luongo has played for many coaches but only made the cup final under one.

All coaches make mistakes but sometimes when I see people with no coaching experience act like they would be a better coach I can not help but shake my head. A .350 hitter in baseball might fail 65% of the time but that doesn't mean I know better. I see the fans know better syndrome in all sports by many fanbases. How many fans on this board know how to manage better than Joe Girardi?
What are you trying to insinuate? Who cares how many times they have gotten to the end? Were they or were they not top-5 goalies when AV took the respective teams over

BTW, Pitt has won many games with no Crosby. They have also been able to adapt to play more than one way.

No one here is "acting". What they are doing is criticizing. That is quite different. And AV's choices have left him wide open for that.

I see your criticism. If you can do a better job then step up and do it. Talk is cheap.

Hes been slowly coaching his way out of town ever since the end of the 2015 ECSF.

He'll get the boot this year. His personnel decision suck, his system is f***ing stupid and he fails to learn from his mistakes.

Torts was 100000000000% better than this clown, and this is coming from someone who wasn't a Torts fan.

That is not an argument. Its like saying we can't criticize Tanner Glass for being terrible because none of us are in the NHL. We aren't measuring AV against us regular people. He's being measured against other NHL coaches.

I don't think there's any way he gets the boot this year.

Where do I put in my application to be coach ?

I could see AV being fired this year. If the team is trash by the time the All Star break rolls around, he'll be gone

I could see AV getting the boot this summer if we have a disappointing year but not likely sooner, unless we're like 12-24-5 at the half way point.

HA. Good stuff. Team is 1-3 and could have won any or all of the 3 games they lost and the coach is trash?

He's trash now for the same reasons he was trash last year.

No flexibility/adjustments to the game.
Mind-boggling personnel usage.
Playing favourites to some (usually shitty) players while giving others insanely short leashes.
Defensive system that is straight up ass.
Gum and glibness.

I don't either. Despite the disappointment at not winning the last game of the season, the team has still overachieved every year he's been here. Including last year.

Completely agree. Lots of short term memory around here. People seem to forget what things were like under Muckler, Low, Trottier and Slats.

Allow me to get this straight. Because I criticize an NHL coach, your only solution is that I should apply for the job?

Why are we here at all? Apparently either we have to fanboy cheerlead. If we do not do that, we should be applying for jobs in the NHL instead of using a public forum created specifically for fans to have debates?

I agree. And of course I remember the Low, Muckler, Trottier years. Naturally quite fondly. It would be hard to be a coach and NOT do better than those. That said, AV has hardly been the model of coaching strength. And his flaws seem to be getting exposed with each day that his goaltender's play declines.

Overachieved? Hmm.,....Not sure I would agree. I think that given the talent level, the team overachieved under Torts. This is not a comparison between the two, but not sure given the talent level that AV's teams have had that I would classify that as overachieving.

I too remember all those coaches, AV should not be above criticism, he deserves it too, but trying to pin everything on him like this roster is some sort of ideal is also going to the other unfair extreme.

They have been shaky for sure. That is what led to the benching of Smith and ADA. If the team continues to be shaky we will see more changes be it short term or long term. Nobody has defended Smith more than I have. Nobody was more excited to see ADA play more than I was but we had 2 very bad games defensively. They both had horrible turnovers that led to goals. Them sitting for a short time in that situation would not be surprising for any coach not just AV. Smith was benched in Detroit. ADA was benched in Arizona. These are issues that every team deals with at some point.

I'm still a staunch believer that the problem is the defensive system AV uses and not the players themselves. It's only one example but Girardi seems to be playing much better in Tampa than he has ever played under AV's asinine, overly complicated man system, and IMHO, if the system were simplified our defensemen would all look a lot better.
