The only thing I'll give them credit for is that Rivet was right about Tage when I had basically given up on him. But other than that . . .
it’s starting to look like he’s right about Mittelstadt too…who everyone had lost hope in. Rivet held him up repeatedly and believed in him. For whatever reason…his one specific ability is to identify forwards who will turn into something no matter how low they get is his gift

IIf you've heard a few episodes of their show, you've learned everything you're ever going to learn from them. And that's without even getting into the whole Roenick side of things.

I listen when they’re having Sabres topics because I will listen to anyone talk about the Sabres except for Paul Hamilton and Mike Harrington…but I won’t listen to Roenick episodes. He is the dirt worst. And I don’t just mean as an analyst.

Yeah, ok. I guess I didn't give him special credit for that because I never gave up on Casey either.

I can only take this show in small doses. Just too many uninformed takes. Though they called Greenway to the Sabres from a mile away. And some of the guests make the show more palatable; Gio, Vanek, etc.
To be fair, they have been barking up the Greenway tree for at least a year before the trade was made.

I still do enjoy the show but from time to time they make predictions or statements that are absurd and tend to run off the rails. As someone mentioned they for sure need a producer to keep the show on track.

Not to derail this thread, but I have a question about the xBuffalo podcast. Does anyone else have a very difficult time understanding Chad sometimes, or is it just me? He slurs his words together and doesn't articulate his consonants so much sometimes that I miss 25% of what he says. I still get the gist, but it's kind of annoying. Not sure if it's just me.

I like After the Whistle the way other people like reality tv. It’s comfortable, good for an occasional laugh at their expense, and it makes me feel better about myself.

Lol I do sometimes also. He speaks really softly but fast at the same time so it can be difficult to hear him. I'll turn up the volume to hear him but it's super loud when Anthony talks

They need a producer in the worst way. The show goes off the rails all the time. Rivet repeats the same phrases/ideas constantly.

"...'cuz he's big... strong..."

They’ll spend a solid minute researching something they should’ve known before recording.

I think both Peters and Rivet have more insight to give than what they do consistently, but they’re left going on a tangent about something that’s been talked about a dozen times before on their show.

They also like to wind one another up on things and just laugh at each other. I like when Gio is on. I just don't listen all the time because I spend time screaming at the speakers in my car.

He’s a mumbler. I have a similar problem on mic. I don’t mumble but I talk very fast. They’re hard habits to break. I’ve always been a fast talker and I assume he’s always been a mumbler. I can sit down mentally locked in to slowing down and as soon as I’m comfortable in the moment it’s hard not to do what’s natural

He was a guest once this season on WGR, in Jan/Feb, and spent 20 minutes stammering about how Mittsy is a wuss.

Found that dichotomy very funny.

Most hockey coverage is trying to give skip bayless type takes while pretending they’re inside sports.

It’s like the history channel of sports coverage.

I find their show entertaining most of the time. I like Gio and Vanek. I accept that they don't know some of the details ahead of time (for example they didn't know the NHL minimum salary for next season). I appreciate their perspective as former players, even if I don't always agree with them.

I like their anecdotes, and as you said, Gio and Vanek. I do not download JR episodes. Ever. **** That clown.

Also, Rivet was pretty adamant yesterday that 100% the expectation for next season is to make the playoffs. I respect that. It's how many fans feel.

I stopped listening to them in the middle of this past season and muted them on Twitter. I only stuck with them that long because they have fairly appealing personalities and they talk about the Sabres. I also enjoy Vanek and Gio. Their hockey analysis is terrible and they are embarrassingly uninformed. They know virtually nothing about prospects or analytics or players on other teams. Your average HF user is much more knowledgeable - and this is just a side hobby for us. Rivet has a 1990s-era size fetish. Peters proudly refuses to do any research on any players. Rivet repeats himself over and over and over again. Their trade proposals are hilariously bad.

If you've heard a few episodes of their show, you've learned everything you're ever going to learn from them. And that's without even getting into the whole Roenick side of things.

Marty and Duffer know 100x more about the league than these guys. If Vanek and Gio had their own podcast, I would definitely listen to them.

The only thing I'll give them credit for is that Rivet was right about Tage when I had basically given up on him. But other than that . . .
Why are they still on the air?
Can they make a living with incompetence?

I was so happy when they left wgr. If I had to hear Rivet list the height and weight of a player one more time....shocked anyone still listens to them.
I am almost 100% Rivet wanted to protect Carrier over Tage I wouldn't give him too much credit.

I mean, if you are going to slag someone, at least get the basics right.
This is the problem. Like I said…you get things wrong on a mic in real time. it happens all the time. But it can not happen when your entire intention is to mock people and bury a player…and the example you use isn’t even close to correct. The problem isn’t making a mistake….it’s the context of the mistake.

Andrew Peters is nothing more than a shit stirrer. I had to stop listening consistently because every single episode is about his axe to grind with Granato. They are extremely uninformed about prospects and the way the NHL works in 2023.

Gionta and Vanek rule though. Vanek could be an NHL GM if he really wanted to be.

The show has become unprepared, uninformed, indifferent, and irrelevant.
Two bored wiseguys, gratuitous f-bombs, adolescent one-upping,
pointless pot-stirring . . .
. . . it's Bevis and Butthead talking hockey.
(Or we can listen to JR telling us what whet dazzling celebrities he's playing golf with, what fabulous hotels he''s staying in, what amazing meals he's eaten, what a glamorous life he's living.)
(Or we can watch the Steve Dangle podcast, and see three self-absorbed thirty-five-year-old teenagers, reveling in in how f-ing cool it is to be f-ing smarter than f-ing everyone else on the f-ing planet.)
