Only strengthens my belief that players in this organisation know better how to orchestrate PP than the coaches.

That's true but I've always thought that was generally the case among good powerplays around the league.

The players know what they're trying to execute and half the time all coaches do is get in the way.

So basically Letestu just gets in the way on the PP. He wasn't a bad PP guy when he played, as I am sure some coaches also may have been. Do they just forget what they know when they become a coach? He said Marchenko's play worked twice. The monsters have 10 PP goals in 38 attempts. I am guessing it didn't work plenty of times also. If it is the play I am thinking of that I have seen him score off of a couple times, I have seen that same play not work. If the players on the PP on Columbus know what they are trying to execute, they are doing a very bad job of it.

So, just to be correct on this, if it's a good PP, it's the players, if it's bad, it's the coaching. Then they should just do away with coaching altogether. They obviously haven't been around the game enough to know how a proper PP should work.

I'll just say that is not an accurate summary of my thoughts, no.

It’s ALL about execution. Sure, most NHL players are more “creative” or “skilled” than most coaches from their playing time.

BUT, these coaches are WAY more “intelligent” on average than all these players. Its fascinating to me when guys are out there making terrible decisions with the puck, or completely blowing defensive coverage, and then people want to BLAME the coach, as if that’s what Torts/Larsen (or any coach) has WANTED them to do.

It doesn’t matter what the hell is “orchestrated” on the ice, if your players can’t make plays. And, while there ARE some set plays, let’s not act like hockey isn’t full of continuous movement where player adaptations are needed on the ice. This isn’t basketball or football, where there is (a focus on) “limited” set plays, or where coaches have “control” in an overly “structured” play calling type mindset.

I assume coaches decide PP lineups, and "default positions" for the players on ice that are subject to fluctuate in the middle of action. Werenski's "position" for example has been on the top of umbrella but it doesn't mean he's obligated to stand in there all the time.

Players can voice their opinion on positions and everything else that goes into the planning of PP but it is clear that they have less authority. JG could suggest that they'd rather have Blankenburg operating on the point than Werenski but he knows he can't say it. It's on coaches to notice which player combinations seem to be best at executing different type of plays and do adjustments to lineups accordingly.

This "Marchy" story reminds me of the beginning of last season when Bjorkstrand allegedly said Voracek had taught them a lot of PP details no one in the org had told them before.

It doesn’t matter what the hell is “orchestrated” on the ice, if your players can’t make plays.
And if coaches choose wrong players to perform plays.

Looks like the Monsters are playing wit 16 skaters (5D) tonight, because of the call-ups. :help: 1-1 right now.

Fonstad and Luoto with goals for what's left of the Monsters. Tied 2-2 halfway through the first. No Marchenko tonight.

Monsters lose 8-7 in shootout. Knazko scored his first goal. Monsters give up 3 PP goals and a shorty. PK not good this year.

Is Knažko playing so that he can be called up in case of further injuries?
I think everyone is on call the way the Jackets are dropping. But seriously, he has only missed two games so far, and he has been playing ok.

Hey guys, what's the chances of TFW getting another look soon? Putting up his best PPG in the A, and continues to be a volume shooter/buzzsaw.

7-3 now. Jiricek with 2 goals. Knazko with 5 (five) assists.

The PK may suck, but the powerplay is churning. 5 for 6 tonight.
